anyone know way leeway BMW give on the services to keep the warranty intact?

Mines due in 800 miles, do i have to get it done before, dead on or say within 500 miles? just checking this is the first BMW i've had serviced ;)

I think the guy selling my car said it had to be done before it was -200 miles or something like that. It definitely allowed you to go past zero (assuming he wasn't telling porkies).

im sure someone told me 1000 miles, but mine went in at like 1150 or something past.. to be honest, i wouldn't risk over a thousand unless you really have to...

Don't know how it is in the UK, but my service adviser told me to call him to book service on my 3.0Si coupe when the time to service indicator was within 1000 miles. I'd say go ahead and give them a call and schedule.

I have on record that I was due for an oil service (according to the SI - I don't wait that long) last September and they couldn't fit me in for two weeks (2 Dealers)? I had it done with my "Guy" and I'm hoping to have the bill covered by BMW Canada - I'm not holding my breath :headbang:

Back on topic - I've been told you should stay within 999km unless you have a real good relationship with your SA.

Let the warrenty run out....then bmw doesn't care when you do an inspection so long as you pay.
(They did my inspection 2 very very early)

Even aside the warranty the BMW is very 'clever' in that if you go overdue on a service then, it advances the time/mileage when the next one is due, to compensate and I don't mean back to the original schedule, but considerably earlier. Ends up as a false economy leaving it that bit longer :(

Is the variable servicing when indicated, or timed?

i.e. is it say 15k or 2 years? Or just when it hits 15k whenever that is?

It goes quicker the harder you drive it as its based on consuming 500 gallons of fuel (IIRC)...I think the general rule is as indicated / every 12 months. IMO you can get 11-13k between services (I did 22k in my old M3 and I've done 23k in this , 15k between services seems a bit optimistic to me).

I've known people who have had no issues at at 2000 miles over, but personally I like to get it done before its 500 over. Also don't forget to haggle with a few dealers at the moment; I had quotes of up to £900 for Insp1 but got my local dealership to price match Cotswolds, who do a 'special' rate of £600 inc VAT. Though I am guessing you might only be needing an oil service at the minute, where they do virtually nothing for their £180...

yeah its an oil service, i've done just over 12000 miles.. i phoned a few main dealers best prices was £187 inc VAT - 1/2 labour apparently! ouch how much does the oil cost?

Abut £15 a litre (inc vat) at the dealer price (which probably costs them less than £5 a litre), or £43 for 4 litres at OpieOils (for non-members, £39 for members).

I used to order in 4x4L packs when there's a special offer on so I'd save 25% on oil for my e34 M5. The Z4MC doesn't use much (if any) so I've only bought 1x4L and a steel flask to hold a 1L top up in the car.

Where was that at?

Best I've been quoted is £210. Might try the haggling

it was solihull sytner, i'm gonna phone Nottingham see if they will price match :)

Leicester wanted £230, derby £210, so worth ringing round

Cotswolds are the big ones to check for M cars. Apparently they want to be known as 'M specialists' so do much better rates...even though my dealer was 200 miles away they agreed to match it, times are slow at the moment.

BMW Labour rate is £95-£120 / hour depending on the dealer I think. I'm told Insp 1 has £285 of parts so it's that plus 5 hours labour...at some dealers that means people are paying £500+ for 1/2 a day, nice. Oil Service is pretty much a basic oil change, my M3 was in and out in under 45 minutes...supplied my own oil once, think the saving was about £40? Didn't bother next time
