Service light - OBD II code reader

Hi all,

I bought my car with a 3 year service plan and it is now 3 years old and I want to get it serviced at a non-BMW dealer.

Eventhough a Service light is on, neither my OBD II reader or the garage's can read any codes.

How do I go about getting my car serviced without going to the dealer? Thank you

A basic OBD reader will only communicate, and read codes related to the engine/emissions. To communicate with all of the other modules on the car, you will need something a little more advanced. I personally use the Carly for BMW android app with their wired lead (bluetooth not recommended on the Z4) cost me less than £70 all in, and I can and have coded a lot of the optional settings.

Why is Bluetooth not recommended on the Z4? I have used it on my iPhone with no problems.

+1 for BMW Carly, but any specialist BMW service indie should have the kit to reset all the service indicators.

thanks, Apple app store sells the Carly app for £34.99, I'll give it ago and leave feedback.
I don't want to simply reset the lights, but I need to find out what service the car needs to I can get it done... then I can reset the light.
The dealers read service (or fault) information from my car key- clever stuff, but not available at other garages.

No need to buy Carly. You can check all that from the hidden service menu using the display between the tach and speedo.

Do a search for hidden menu in E90 or E89.

Ok my mistake - BMW Service Inclusive is 5 years (warranty is 3 years). Sweet! :) So I'll be going back to the dealer and get my money's worth.

"BMW Service Inclusive is available on all new BMW models and covers the cost of a comprehensive list of service items for up to 5 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first. BMW Service Inclusive can be purchased at any point within the first 60 days of registration of your new BMW at a greatly reduced price and then at full price at any point before the vehicles first service. This one off, inflation proof payment not only offers peace of mind but the benefits are also fully transferrable to any subsequent owner and can even enhance the resale value of your BMW."
