Service Intervals

I have a '04 2.2 Roadster and it is due a service in approximately 800miles - I'm just not sure which service i.e. inspection 1, 2 or oil change.

I am currently working abroad so dont have access to my service history book but was hoping to book the car in to ensure the service gets done during my 2 weeks back in the UK.

Anyway, the car has approx 18k miles on the clock at the moment.
I bought it from dealer roughly 10 months ago with 11k miles.

From memory it had only had an oil change carried out on it when I bought it but not 100% sure without being able to check the book.

What service would you guys expect was due to be carried out, Inspection 1?

Should I arrange for the dealer to do any additional work due to the age/mileage of the car or just go ahead with the planned works covered under the standard service?

Pretty sure that'll be Inspection 1 mate.
As for getting other things done, if they point things out that need doing then just take them elsewhere to be done, it'll be far cheaper.

Cheers Duckson.

Is the Inspection 1 the smaller of the two inspection classes?

What actually gets done and do you feel a difference on the Z4 afterwards?
With other cars I've had a good service usually makes them feel a good bit better.

I'll call around a couple of my local dealers for prices - whats the norm for an Inspection 1?

Inspection 2 is the biggee.
Dont have a Z4 yet (looking at a Z4MR tomorrow) so couldnt say!

Well on a Z4M the Insepection 1 from BMW is something like £500-600 usually, for a 2.2 i dont know but i'd expect it to be cheaper.

Actually, that could be Oil change 1!!! Depends on how hard the car was driven. It was almost 20K miles for me before I got within a thousand on the oil indicator (but I had it changed at 12 months rather than wait for the indicator). Took it when indicated to have the cabin air filter replaced.

Does your little light say "oil" or "Inspection" when you start the car?

I'm not sure what the indication light says to be honest as I'm out the country at the minute and cant remember.

Hopefully just an oil change as I'm planning on upgrading to something bigger wthin the next year.

Cheers guys

Due to the age / mileage, I would be surprised if it wasn't an Insp1. Won't be an Insp2 as it's too early...usual schedule is Oil / Insp1 / Oil / Insp2 and repeat (indicator says 15k to go after a service, but 10-12k interval seems more usual as it drops the harder it's driven...based on consuming 500 gallons IIRC). Definitely won't be just an oil service though if the last one it had was oil. Regardless I am pretty sure the car should ideally be serviced to that schedule every 2 years regardless of mileage.

Actually main dealers want £600-£900 for an Insp 1 on a Z4M. Bargaining / price matching Cotswolds BMW (who do a special rate) should get that down to £600 inc VAT, especially now while business seems to be slow. These prices are much higher than for none Ms though!
