Service Intervals on a 3.0si

Got a question about my coupe - I know everyone is different when it comes to servicing. The car computer says inspection in 6000miles.

I checked my service book and I have 3 services, each at the 18000 mile intervals. 18k, 36k and 54k. Ive just ticked over 65k, should I be putting this in?
I serviced my old Mazda 3 yearly but im conscious that might not be the case for this engine. :?

Whats your thoughts guys?

At 18k service intervals then the next one is due at 72k which matches your next inspection on the computer. However, I'd recommend oil and filter change every 12 months regardless of mileage. You don't mention your yearly mileage but I'm guessing it's much lower than 18k?

BMW 'standard' servicing is either on mileage or every 2 years, whichever is the sooner with other servicing, such as brake fluid on time alone is my understanding.

The idea is that you have services according to the dash countdown or at a maximum of 2 year intervals (whichever comes first), and brake fluid changes every 2 years.

That said most 'enthusiasts' will perform additional oil changes in-between the indicated service countdowns or at, say, 1 year intervals

The intervals are too long in my opinion. I aim for annual or 7.5k oil changes but I service myself which keeps costs down and means I know the job has been done properly. I've twice had inspections carried out by 'professionals' and both times the oil was underfilled.
Have a google for mike millers maintenance schedule, I agree with his thinking.

Thanks guys I only did 5k last year but taking it out more now daily because its too fun not too. Ill keep that in mind, probably time to switch out the filters then based on what I can see in the book.

Great help from the Forum as always.
