Service interval countdown

yeah you're fussy I guess, doesn't really help answer the question.
Oil sensor part numbers for z4m are
7567723
7540351
7607910
All appear to be the same part over different years. How does that compare to the N52 steve?

Fussy is good, nothing wrong with frequent oil changes, regardless of the schedule. 15k is far too long for my comfort!

12617607910 is the only one listed for mine, the other 2 are ended parts. So the condition ability is there in the hardware, I can't imagine why you wouldn't enable it in the software. Does the M have an on board quantity indicator? If not in the dash then is it visible in INPA?

No onboard display whatsoever other than low oil/pressure warning light (not entirely sure as to which is measured for this warning light) , judging by the oil I dropped when I got the car I be very surprised that the oil condition is measured by these sensors and if it is then I certainly wouldn't rely on it. Regardless my oil gets changed at least once if not twice between service 'intervals' however those may be measured. Once I start the car up upon a mid interval change the service mileage indicator does not change.
Back to the OP, I think what you're experiencing is entirely normal, but check with BMW if you are concerned it's wrong.

Well I'd echo you regarding the condition, the first DIY change I did was after 10k and it was not a pretty colour!

I'm not sure if the dropping by 25 miles on startup is correct, a first step to try could be a DIY oil change to see if you then start getting more miles done compared to the indicator?

@ scooba
That's a good idea

Also sam, po,
Is your speedo working properly?
Just throwing random questions out there
As if faulty speed sensor perhaps it's reading mileage wrong?

Just a thought as I'm curious
As my insp2 was at 10k on clock

I've done an oil/filter change a month ago or close as, yet still have 7,000 showing to service

That would make my service gap of some 17k
As on 20k now
Go figure
But def curious to answer

Yep, good advice. It does seem to have a mind of it's own the service indicator, I'd love to know the definitive answer.....

12 x4 being 48 gallons a month

They reckon upon 500 gallons between service
So your looking at 10.4 months between servicing

So 200 miles a week
X 10.4 months 8,400 miles

That'll be your quota of miles per 500 gallons of fuel:)

So considering its late and brain mush
I'd say that's why your service is taking the added mileage off countdown over a weekend car :)

I could be horribly wrong but I tried:)

Ok, goooooooogled the crap out of this now

And whomever said in post its fuel based is the winner!!!!

It's not condition of oil otherwise mine as per everyone on here that does interim changes as I would see the extension to their service

I use mine a day a week plus maybe a Saturday a week if lucky
So using less fuel hence I've been given the 17k countdown to service

So Sam, as you use yours as a daily thinking Thame to Oxford if I'm correct ?

That's 13/5 miles each way 150 min a working week
Plus weekend and any runs
So possibly 200 miles a week ?

Guessing 17mpg as an all in figure
12 gallons a week approx 55 litres
Say £60 a week on fuel?

First part of my reply !! Blooming Iphone deleted what I wrote!!

Dawg, I think you're missing the point. It doesn't matter how often you use the car, it's how you use it when you do. The service mileage indicator won't change over time only on usage. It makes no difference if you do 7 trips of 20 miles per week or 1 trip, the indicator will go down accordingly to the amount of fuel used. Sure it will go down quicker if you do more journeys, but relatively it will be exactly the same decline as if you did that journey just once a week. It will of course take correspondingly longer to reduce the indicator in that case.
The maximum displayed on a full reset after oil service/inspection is 15500 miles, how are you working out that you have 17k between services on yours?

My brains just trying to reason it for going down quicker by his fuel useage
As in his lower mpg = lower miles per fuel used

As I cruise then only rag it a few times so sitting at around 30+ mpg = less fuel per miles driven

Ref 17k God knows unless I've looked at service mileage wrongly haha

Totally doable

Some interesting posts, thanks.

Mileage is about right, average 23mpg. It does get a bit of a poke too.

I've got ~9600 left, so best look at a change in a few K, maybe sooner.

It's gone down over 500 miles in 8 days. I've driven about 220.

Going down twice as fast as it should? really?

Mine used about 600 miles of it's schedule in 206 track miles - but that probably equates quite well to the increased fuel usage as I was doing about 10mpg.
