Service Inspection II questions. :)

So I plan on servicing my car as I’ve just bought it and its 250 miles over and inspection II. It’s a 2006 Si Sport Coupe.

• Oil – I have from a previous car (don’t worry it’s the correct stuff)
• Oil Filter – I’ve just nipped over the road from work to the local BMW dealer to pick up the filter, seal and new sump ring
• Air Filter – Is there a specific one needed?
• Cabin Filter – as above really
• Fuel Filter – again, as above
• Spark plugs – I’ve heard the NGK stuff is good but can anyone point me in the right direction?

I think that’s about it. Brake fluid has only just recently been done so that’s ok. The pads have just been changed too and the disks are fine.

If there is anything else that needs doing that I’ve missed off the list then please let me know.

p.s I also plan to replace the OEM springs with some Eibachs. I have OEM shocks on 66k running the 108 wheels. Can anyone recommend the correct set I should be going for? Want it lower but not rubbing etc.

Many thanks and I look forward to hearing your responses!

All in the maintenance booklet I believe. Not looked into it in too much detail yet, but:

Valve clearances?

I'll be getting gearbox & diff oils and coolant changed at the same time as well, personally, regardless of what's on the list.

Not concerned about the service history for resale? I would personally not go near a Z4 on which the seller had done inspection 2 themselves.

valve clearances? do these not adjust themselves?

thought the gearbox was a fill for life job too. all intersting as mine will be due an inspection 2 next so worth knowing whats what.

Valve clearance check is M only..

But..

Change gearbox oil for Amsoil manual syncromesh fluid....Brilliant oil that will be in for life..

Change diff oil, only cheap and peace of mind its done..

I’m getting my indy to do the service but I’m just getting the bits n bobs ready for him. He’s ex BMW and has all the knowledge and kit but a 3rd of the price. I can fully recommend him if anyone is looking for an indy in the Southampton area.

It has been serviced by looking at the receipts etc but the last stamp in the book was at 35k (Inspection I). It has since had oil and brake fluid changes but not stamped so the history is already slightly vague. I will get the book back on track but I know it will affect re-sale but I plan on keeping this car for many, many years (I will garage it at some point) until there are so few left that it’s a classic sort after car.

good shout on the diff and box

gearbox and diff fluids are for life on non ///M cars also.

Inspection 1 or 2 on non ///M cars really is an easy DIY.

The gearbox oil in my old 3 series was for "life" however at 140k I decided to get it changed. I've heard that, according to BMW, "for life" equals about 100k so mine was 40k over. Once it was changed the box felt so much smoother.

Good to hear on the valve clearances being only Ms, wasn't sure.

Yeah, the cynic in me figures BMW's definition of 'life' is likely just 'until it's out of warranty and not our problem' so I'm happy to pay for the diff oil, gearbox oil and coolant for the peace of mind.

Gotcha. Receipts in place of the missing stamp and inspection 2 now at a decent indy will go a good way towards getting the book looking right for resale anyway I'd say.

Recently purchased inspection II service items for my 3.0si. Fuel filter is classed as lifetime so no requirement to replace.
