Service Inclusive - is it worth it?

Counting down the days until my Z4 is delievered - only 20-30 days left urgh!

I have opted not to take out the £425 service inclusive pack however was keen to understand peoples views on this. Based on my expected mileage I should only have to service the car every 2 years - how much have people paid for their 1st services?

I don't plan to keep the car beyond 2 years so as long as the 1st service is less than £425 I should be still be quids in.
 
I would say the service pack is an absolute must but maybe not so much if you are only keeping it for 2 years.my first service is due on my 318i and they want £290!!

For £425 covering 5 yrs/50k miles and top ups in between its a bargain..

If you plan on selling your z4 privately after two years the service pack will still add a little bit of value so it may be worth it.

You can add the pack anytime up until 60 days after registration I believe. Im going to add mine when I pick it up at the end of June
 
You say you don't 'plan' on keeping the car more than 2 years... you never know what might happen in 2 years. I'd definitely take it. My year 2 service (granted this is on a 35i which is a more expensive service anyhow) was £350 and year 4 service (just had it) was £580.

It makes the service package very good value (and I wish I'd taken it out now!).
 
The price has gone up quite a lot - I paid £300 for it on my first E89. On my second zed it was an ex-demo that already had it so I didn't have to pay anything except that it was probably factored into the price of the car.

Like you, I would only expect to have one service before trading it in, so it's a bit dubious as to if it's worth it. However it is transferable to the next owner so should be reflected in the trade in price.
 
i got the service pack thrown in for free with my car but think it was valued at £300. up to you whether you feel like it is worth the extra money or not. servicing prices could go up in 2 years time.

i've had mine for just over a year now and its showing 13k miles with another 3k until the service is due
 
I also got the dealer to provide the service package gratis. No brainer to me also - free servicing whilst you have the car and when you come to sell/trade it you have full BM service history! :)

plus having free servicing for any amount of time is going to be an added plus when coming to sell
 
I guess it depends on if you believe the long life services are good for the car, and think that main dealers are any better than a good indy garage...

I don't on both accounts, so wouldn't use this, nor pay a premium for any car that has...

Mine was included for free as part of the deal , at that time it was £350 , would I have paid for it , dont know at one level it doesnt make much sense for me , the last 3 cars have only needed the bi-annual brake/fluid check , I dont cover enough mileage/keep them log enough to need a service
 
Got it on the 23i was already on it when purchased second hand was a big selling point for me. Have speced it on the 35i and its really nice just having to sign a bit of paper when you take it in and not forking out. :thumbsup: :D
 
Just went to my dealer to book in my 3 series for a service. I spoke to the salesman to see where my z4 is up to and production has started!

Anyways I asked about the service pack and he said if you planning on changing it after 3 years it may not be worth it. He said the likelihood is that it will only require one service in that time. So if you are getting rid of it after two, it may not be worth it. It will also depend on how many oil top ups you need during that time.

Agreed, if you do the mileage and aim on keeping the car then it can be a bargain otherwise a waste of money if you do a low mileage and hand the car back after 2 to 3 years.

Seemed like a good deal to me on the basis of the time I'll own it so I got it. The service inclusive plus package doesn't seem worth it though.
 
Thanks all. At face value it is a bargain however I will probably do no more than 6-7k per year and i will probably part ex in 12 or 24 months time so might pass on the service pack. Then again if you take your own oil service will be even cheaper.
 
Yea definitely a must if you plan on having it for more than 3 years. The salesman i dealt with said once my car arrives he will try and work out if its better to get the service pack or not based on mileage and how long i keep it for. He said it adds value in order to sell it on but its of no use if it is financed and you hand it back after 3 years.

In terms of using your own oil, my 3 series needs 4.25 litres and the recommended castrol oil online is 38 quid for 4 litres. Bmw tried charging me 82 quid but they said its fine for me to bring my own. For the same price i can get 8 litres and use the spare for topping up throughout the year.
 
Every 2 years from build date brake oil change, not reg date as its when the oil was put in the car.
18K estimated oil change + oil filter+ micro filter (unsure if this should have been changed)
36K estimated should be oil change oil filter /spark plugs,+micro filter+ air filter.
year 4 and 5 MOT insurance included. (year 3 is included but I think is standard with BMW BUT you do it before wty runs out).
Oil top ups for 5 years. (I think I have used 2L in 2 years in the 10 plate)
Then it gets a bit tight assuming the estimated milage
54K estimated oil change + oil filter + microfilter NOTE WILL BE just out of the 50K unsure if you could pop it in and get it done, I think there is a milage band of 3K.
Next brake oil will be 6 years so that will also be out.

Above is initial miles and then depends how you drive it.

So its not just the oil you need to look at

My last 10 plate had a premature oil change (it went in for brake oil and ended up with a full service!!) at 15K. last key data reading at 30K it was showing 9K remaining that makes 23K per oil change.

For me I do 12K miles a year and like to keep the car 6 months after its 3 birthday. My new one was built in December 12, pre regestered in Jan and I purchased it 2 weeks ago with 28 miles on the clock. I was able to purchase the service inclusive and I jumped at it, as the 1st brake oil and 1st oil service combined is over that. When I come to sell I will be pushing for a few pounds back. If I keep it for a few months more then I will need the big service and another brake oil change which will be free.

I may need to do this as the new z4 will be out and the used market will be stupidly high like in 09 so ill ride it out for a year while it settles

If you intend to px before 20k miles then dont bother. even after 2 years the brake oil change is only around £150.
 
Thanks for all the info above - all good info in making my decision - I didnt think I would qualify for the service plan as I am the second owner (the first owner only did 500 miles in it and had it for a few months). but the dealer just called and said I do - so going to sleep on it

(I think I would take it if I were in your shoes, just my tuppence)
