Service history questions

Hi all,

Previous Z4 3.0 owner here, sold it to buy a 645ci and now want to get into a Z4M Roadster.

Apologies for the beginner/likely frequently asked question, but the Z4MR I'm looking at has the following history. Currently on 40.2k miles.

29.06.2006 Pdi
16.10.2006 - 1170 miles
13.06.2008 - 18137 miles
02.02.2011 - 22621 miles
20.06.2013 - 40267 miles

My gut instinct is that it hasn't had enough services - I understand that it's condition based but surely between 2008-2011 it should have had something done despite only doing 5k miles? Seems incredibly low to me?

Any input appreciated!

Thanks

Nik

Maybe a few months over due on the age side however the low mileage and lack of use wouldn't trouble me. It would trouble me if over that period the car had done 30,000 miles between the sevices. The service history is fine if on the 22k it was inspection 1 and on the 40k it was inspection 2

Edit just seen on the 22k to 40k it did 18,000 hmm... they must have just done motorway mileage to get that much out of the service indicator or run it over the bongs! Might be an idea to find out what use it had for that period? Might be a problem should engine warranty come into things.

Looks like both of the latter services were late...

The 20.06.2013 one by 4 months/4,000 miles, and the 02.02.2011 one by 8 months.

Only an issue when you need a warranty/goodwill claim, or when you come you come to sell it - so factor that into the price.

What mmm-fives says.

It should've had an oil and brake fluid change in June 2010 as a 2 year interval, but I wouldn't let that bother me because the car had only done a few k miles during that period.

Thanks for all of your responses.

This is the vehicle in question: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/z4m-roadster/bmw-z-series-z4-m-roadster--one-owner-car---------------2006/1555307

I've noticed that a bit of trim on the drivers side transmission tunnel is missing, along with the centre wind deflector.

I have also enquired about http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/z4m-roadster/bmw-z-series-z4-m-roadster-2006/1258562 - this is higher mileage than what I'd usually look at - at the risk of derailing the thread, any problems with 'higher' mileage M's?

Thank you!

Nik

Wind deflector could be in the boot. what bit of trim is missing. If the missing trim is one of the round covers they are a fiver from a main dealer and do seem to go missing for some reason or other.

Yeah the little black circle covers. Just makes me wonder if the console has been out for whatever reason!

What services were done at the stated mileages? Was the last one an inspection 2?

My last service was a minor service at 29500 miles and on the current estimate at start up my next, an inspection 2, will be +16k from then so, assuming that last one was an inspection 2 I would be happy with that.

I'm also missing the little round piece of trim. Noticed yesterday, funnily enough. I think mine has just fallen out, might even be under my seat.

Happy hunting.

Both look fine from the adverts. I think Amy still works at Lotus Silverstone, she is a good honest sales person there. Very up front and that car has obviously been chopped in against a Lotus.

Re the engine as long as its been serviced and warmed up per foot to the floor then the engines go well past 100k without issue - plenty of E46 M3s, the same engine still going strong. The only issue North of 60k through to 70-80k is that they become a rapist car where no one seems to want to know them. Look at the lovely interlargos on here at 70k for £10k with no takers.

The top one is from a garage near me, they often have ///M's for sale and other sports cars, have a good reputation around here, just my two penneth

Thanks Darren. That is very useful as I'd be travelling from Norwich to view, so a good few hours.

Some eyes on the bodywork might be a good idea, that's a very kind offer. I'm glad to hear they have a good reputation - is it a forecourt business?

Thanks

Nik

Nik, they have a forecourt and showroom with 5-6 cars in, happy to have a walk around for you, they're nice people, if you PM me your email/ mobile I'll give you an overview

Re: the centre console trim: I've looked at a few coupes recently, and most had this screw cover cicrle thingy missing on the driver's side between the front left corner of the seat and the poadding on the tunnel cover.
Most likely just gets knocked off.
