Service Engine Soon Light (do i have to?)

My z4 told me that in 500 km I need to service the engine... after 500km the light "Service Engine Soon" came on.... is this really necesary or ? cause my last inspection that i had cost me 85$ and that was before the light came on.
 
should give you a mileage when you turn it on.

if you go 1000 miles over that (1400k?) it can void the warranty.
 
That $85 was probably for an oil service. This next inspection will be a bit more major and cost you $500 or so.

If it's under warranty you'll need to get it done sooner rather than later - i.e. book it in now so that you don't go over the limit before it actually gets to a garage.
