Service done...

So the service has been done.. year 4, 22K miles, plugs, oil, filter, micro filter, brake fluid etc etc ... £580 after discount and I paid £308 after some BMW discount.

All said and done though... how can I tell its been done other than iDrive says 'talk to me again in 2015'. No fingerprints, no sign of fluids, all looks as it did... which means either they're really good or? ;)

I had rear pads changed last week and oil change at dealers, 8,000 miles. They wanted £550 but managed to get discount too and paid £345. They cancelled the warning light and joined the wires together on the front brake sensors too to disable them.
Do people actually pay the service prices? Always ask price first, tell them it's too much, ask their best price. Also with dealers best avoid month before/after new reg.

-------- I had a quote from a local BMW independent specialist who has all the required tools to release the electronic parking brake to change the pads, and they quoted £70 labour to change the rear pads.

Does the system then automatically recalculate the miles to anaother pad change ? :?

Yep. Idrive shows a new mileage 'to' next change. About 40k i think on mine.

Worth remembering this one!

There are sensors on the pads on the left hand side, front and rear. They monitor the wear.
My Zed went through 3 sets of front pads before I upgraded the front brakes. Now with Pagid pads they are lasting a lot longer.
I Spoke with the dealer about oil change and decided to change every 8,000 miles as the engine runs hotter with my driving.

List for pads £82.12, then sensor £20.44, Lab £70.50 then VAT. Mine had done the 30K
the sensor only chirps up on low thickness and does not actually know the thickness hence milage countdown and you get BMW to check the actual thickness. Mine had 4mm left so decided to get them done.

My 08 z4 did 40K miles for the pads but also needed front disks what the f. 1 set of pads and a set of disks...

Just opted for 5 year service inclusive for £425 so well happy with that.

Vehicle check is the correct wording which is BMW's for BMW health check where they go over the key items and simply check and report. On the dash the merged SS symbol is the road worthy test / statutory vehicle inspection i.e. MOT.

So a check is BMW excuse not to do a service but look and report/ charge for oil top ups ect.
Inspection is MOT.
