Service Costs

I will be watching very carefully when my inspection 1 happens next month. Still not sure who to take it to, probably go with Halliwell Jones Southport as I've always used them before. Lesser of several very expensive evils

Why not try the old trick of marking the rocker cover gasket......
With a UV pen so they can't see you've marked it - can also do this for the plugs, filter, etc.

I've been doing a bit of ringing around. I've spoken to Batemans at Lindale, a very pretty part of the Lakes. They have quoted me £575 all in for inspection 1. They also informed me without a prompt that they would need the car the night before becuase they had to check the tappets. Dealers around Merseyside have quoted £780- £850 so I might as well spend the money on a hotel and have a weekend in the Lakes!

I was planning on doing something similar, but using a dealer around the Nurburgring instead :P

It makes sense if the money you save can be used to pay for a weekend away, wherever that might be. My second choice was the Cotswolds, have a mate living down there and Cotswolds BMW advertise Insp 1 on the E46 M3 for £650 IIRC.

Just had my inspection I done at Harry Fairbairns in Glasgow for £602 (after discount for the 4 visits required to fix a leaking headlight skoosher - grr). Also, they didn't tell me that they needed the car for 2 days, so I had to go back and pick up a courtesy car that evening after they phoned to explain this during the day. Not impressed. Should've had a much bigger discount for yet another balls up on their part IMHO. However, someone phoned from their customer care dept (missed the call unfortunately) looking for feedback, so I'll be telling them straight. :x :headbang: I'm running out of dealers to use around the Glasgow area now, so any suggestions of a good indy would be welcome as the car will be out of warranty in Jan 2011. Is it just me or are BMW dealers generally getting worse? I've owned BMW's since the mid 90's and feel that each time I've spent more money on the car the service (and reliability of the cars) has deteriorated e.g. had a 318iS back then and did 60k miles in 2 years and never had any problems between services, service costs were very reasonable and it was always a case of drop the car off, collect it same day, no hassles ... I've had 2 E46 and 2 E92 M3's since 2003, 1 of each was new and had countless repeat visits for niggly issues.

p.s. Fell out with Douglas Park a couple of years ago due to the same problems of multiple repeat visits to attempt fixes and then when I wrote my car off in Jan 2009 they back pedalled on paying me compensation for all the grief I'd had with them, eejits that they are ... sorry, in a very foul mood over the M tax today. I wouldn't mind if they actually provided a quality service, but just feel that all thats happening is we're all paying for the swanky building BMW forced dealers to build some years back ... the way I feel right now, I very much doubt I'll buy another BMW let alone an M .... just my 2c worth.

Use this lot myself for my first MOT, Inspection 1 and a brake fluid change in March this year. Good prices and no probs with their work.

A few prices for Inspection 1 that I've recently found

Stratstone Maidenhead £594
Cotswold Cheltenham £620
Dick Lovett Swindon £699
Vines Guildford £772
Sytner Sunningdale £779
Cooper Reading £796
Wood Hampshire (approx) £800
Barons Hindhead £830
Barons Farnborough £840
Cooper Cobham £866

Vines and Sytner have offered to price match, so will go with them or Stratstone. Anybody used any of them before?

simpson motorsport will be doing all my services from now on......... it dont trust bmw with my charged ///M, i can imagine it now, "cum hav a look at this lads, lets take it for a run round the block"

i do fancy an M next but the inspII service costs are stupid ! really puts me off.

what sort of costs are you M owners looking at for the insp2 then ?

if you buy right an inspec 2 is only once in 8 years of motoring - at my miles it is anyway.

Run an e46m3 and z4mc for a total of 6 years now and only ever had to pay for two oil servcices, inspec 1 looming.

plus brake and coolant at standard intervals. cheaper motoring than the wifes mx5 on 12 month services
