Service cost info

Hi there,

I am thinking of getting a Z4M but wanted to know about the service intervals and costs. I am looking of getting a 2006/7 model with around 16,000-19,000 miles but am not sure about the service interval requirements or costs.

I currently have a 1994 Toyota MR2 Turbo which I get serviced once a year but I'm not sure if this is the case for newer cars or if it is more a case of it being mileage dependant.

Also, does this servicing have to be carried out at a BMW garage or can it be done by an independant garage (my uncle is a mechanic and has done all the servicing & MOT's on my current car at greatly reduced rates).

Does the same servicing details apply to the standard Z4 3.0l as well as the M version?

Sorry for all the questions but just ant to check that I have got the most info I can get on the Z4M so that I can make an informed decision when purchasing.

Many thanks,
Lucy

Hey lucy & welcome !

I get about 12k between my services (am at 38k now) but they are usage dependant, you'll get longer if you pamper it and shorter with track days, etc.

You get one cheap oil service before every major, inspection i & ii, oil services are about 150-200 with inspection i about 350-400, cheaper if you take your own oil.

If it's still in warranty any vat registered garage can service it to keep the warranty up, but if you extend it with bmw it might need a dealer stamp.

The servicing for the 3.0 is a lot less, but then it's a vastly different car too.

The 3.0 is very quick and quite comfortable with very good mpg for what it is, the /M is an absolute hooligan and wants to be thrashed everywhere and is harder.

Best thing you can do is drive one, it might make you not worry about servicing too much :driving: 8)

One things for sure, Z4M Roadsters are incredibly cheap at the moment for what they are, not many other cars get close for the money.
Good luck and keep us informed what you decide!

This one is a bargain!! 7,699 miles and only £20,895 now!!

Almost worth forgetting the extra running costs!

It's actually cheaper than my old 3.0si coupé at the same dealer!!

Where did you get Insp1 for that? Paid £600 for mine and most London dealers wanted £950...£350-£400 is much nicer!

Just for the record for the OP, it goes Oil Service - Insp 1 - Oil Service - Insp 2 and repeat, every 12-15k. Oil services are cheap, Inspections are a bit painful, Insp 2 being the big service, can be anything from £700-£1200 depending on the dealer. Indys will be a lot cheaper. There is some slightly specialist stuff to do (valve clearances etc) so if you go indy, make sure it's a BMW M car specialist who knows what they are doing with the S54 engine.

The 3.0 is much cheaper to service, less than half as I recall (?), and it's a great car delivering plenty of performance, so I would try both back to back first and see which you prefer
