Service 2- quote me happy...

It will be time for the Service 2 in 4-5 weeks and the MOT is due at pretty much the same time... so I'm hunting around now for prices.

Two so far, one my "local" BMW dealership - £288 + £54 for MOT
Prestige German Cars - £240 +VAT + £47 for MOT.

So in reality, very little difference between the two so I'd probably go with the dealership since it's another stamp in the book and it's much easier to get to.

Has anyone been able to beat these prices? I was expecting the MOT to be a little cheaper but it saves the hassle of arranging it elsewhere, taking time off work, etc.

What kind of extra problems/costs have people had crop up at this service? (rear springs already done at last service...)
I understand there's a more thorough inspection of the suspension than is done at the regular oil service. Are any parts changed as part of the service costs or are they actualy needed? Do they really do much more than a regular oil service apart from looking around a bit more?

The Z4 hit 60k this week :driving: must have been complaining as it refused to let me in the drivers side door the other day, exterior handle wouldn't open the door but the interior one did. Hasn't happened since though.

Thats a very good price - I even took my old e28 to a dealer when i was at uni back between 98-2002 it was that reasonable then to goto the stealership!

I remember i even let them do the head gasket change on that car - around 58 quid if i remember!!! :driving:

my dealer quote me with 430£ including break fluid and oil change. Big difference from the private garage, 199 + break fluid!

When I had my first car that needed MOTing I took it to the local council MOT test centre. It worked out about half the price of a garage of anytype and that before I got a discount for my mum being a teacher.

I would always take my car somewhere council run from now on, as they either pass it or fail it based on it's condition; they want safe cars on the road, and not whether they need to up their income as I suspect some garages do...

No council MOT centers close to me :(

Doesn't look like I'll be able to find a much better price without going to a bog standard garage, but I'd like to keep it to atleast a specialist for the service 2, since all previous services have been done by BMW.

Anyone know what they're likely to knock off if I take my own oil?

That must have been cheap, my local BMW main stealer only charges £40 for the MOT.

It was about £15 if I remember correctly. Very efficient at testing.

There must be a council test centre somewhere nearby, as I believe that's where taxi's have to be tested in order to get those little licence plates. I would imagine all council testing is done in house too.

Not so happy any more :x
Rang up to book the service and apparantly the price I wad quoted didn't include oil, the guy I spoke to had forgotten to add it :headbang:
With oil it's £363.... I think I'll supply my own oil thanks :| Plus they don't have any courtesy cars for a couple of weeks (wouldn't have been a problem last time I rang)

Now ringing around for more quotes.

£425 at a Stratstone place, but they'll price match... then when the wifey went to check up on courtesy cars I got disconnected, after waiting 5 minutes for the original quote, they can phone me back if they want my business

Thought I had a nice quote and conveniant service to arrange and it turns out to be another pain in the rear :x
