Seriously considering the RPI Exhaust

Only had the Z4M Roadster a week but already starting to get quite a list of things that I want to do to bring it back to all its glory including

New badges all round
Refurb/replace alloys
Replace drivers cup holder as arm broke

But although I love the sound, I just feel it needs more especially as it’s not a daily. From all the videos and write ups I’m pretty sure it’s the RPI exhaust I’m looking for, especially as it seems to just turn the same sound up to 11 or even 12 whereas a lot of the others seem to totally change the sound which I don’t want.

Does anyone have the RPI installed and your thoughts, also I may look to go the evolve carbon intake at some point so interested if anyone’s gone down that route as well.

I can’t comment on rpi, but I went down the route of supersprint race. Like you, it’s not a daily and for me it totally transformed the car. I couldn’t have it as a daily, but for its use, it’s how it should be for me!

Thanks Tom, a little reassurance I’m not mad

Just a cheeky nudge Andy, I have a pair of mint Supersprint back boxes if you’re interested at any point.

I too am the same as you!
Recently picked up a Z4MR and it’s a weekend toy and want to replace the exhaust and the RPI is certainly a consideration!

This guy has a few YouTube videos with the RPI as well as the Evolve Air Box on some later vids. Just so difficult to gauge how loud it is in real life :headbang:

first 30 seconds then my son started to cry so had to slow down   this car frightens him.

RPI, love and hate relationship.... sound awesome!! but sadly ..... in some ways they are that loud that driving the car is often a pain... plus EVERYONE looks at you. I love the weight savings they offer.

I don't know anything about the RPI but when I bought my MC it had Powerflow back boxes already fitted, and they up the volume just enough for me. Plus the tailpies are a bit larger so they fill the spaces in the bumper a bit better! There is a bit of drone around 2,000 rpm but as that's typically around 50mph in 6th it's easy enough to drive around when it starts to get annoying.

I have wondered about other intakes like Gruppe M, Eventuri, etc. but I wouldn't want intake volume to drown out the exhaust, so I'll stick with what I have. If the intake did dominate the exhaust it would be an expensive mistake!

Now we are allowed out and about a bit more it would be ideal if you could find a forum member who has one or other of those alternatives fitted as a video is no substitute for 1st hand expereince.

Anyway I hope you find a solution you like.

I too have the RPI's. It's certainly divisive. They are amazeballs when you're on it on some deserted B road :driving: but annoying as f**k when you're on a motorway cruising :headbang:

If you have the chance to hear them live then I would definitely urge you to do so. They really are on another level compared to stock....

Intake noise on these car's is so much better than any exhaust noise you can get on them IMO. I've still yet to hear an S54 exhaust video that actually sounded particularly good to me, intake on the other hand

I would go for a carbon airbox and save your money on the exhaust, will sound far more exotic

There's an M roadster with an RPI near where i live and every time it drives past you have to stop your conversation and wait for it to go... it's that loud. Each to their own of course but it doesn't sound good to my ears, at least not from the outside.

I've got a Gruppe M and have to agree with Andy - the intake noise is sublime and, for me, is far more emotive than exhaust sound. I'm actually glad the stock back box is so quite so it doesn't interfere with the intake noise  . If i were to consider an aftermarket back box it would probably be a Powervalve BCS just because it tries to limit the noise until you really go for it, apparently with less drone at motorway speeds (they claim no drone).

I dare anyone to briskly drive a Z4M with RPIs up a twisty mountain road and not giggle like an idiot when you first downshift and put the pedal to the metal. I've had mine for 10 years now and I still smile every single time.

Again, it's 100% NOT for everyone! But when it works it works really well

If i had access to twisty mountain roads i might change my opinion :D
However, driving around where i live i might get chased by angry farmers an locals with pitchforks

As mentioned by Iggy Powervalve come highly rated, It just so happens I have a set in my garage if your interested.

I recently got my z4mc and just want a deeper exhaust note…. So many different ideas floating round..
But until I can got for a full system.. is there an easy option for now?

You could open up the stock boxes, gut them and put in an S pipe to direct the flow: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=67242

Others do the "bypass" mod on the stock exhausts: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1382992#p1382992

Hi,

only catching up with this thread today ... I might be tempted by your BCS boxes. What sort of money do you have in mind?

Thanks
A

My quote is a bit misleading, they are in my garage but still attached to the car 😄 my intention was to remove them last week, however I’ve done a few more miles with them but still can’t 100% if there for me or not. I think I’ll give them a bit longer and see if they grow on me.
If I do sell them I would like what I paid for them in May £600.
