Serious Window Problems

Out in the car today and decided to get the roof off.

Stopped the car and pressed the button.

Driver Window came down and made a terrible screeching noise as if the rubbers were sticking.

Roof off and drove home.

Pressed the button again to raise the roof and the same thing happened. Screeching noise from the rubbers.

Roof up and I opened the driver window fully.

Three quarters of the way down and there's a bang, then a grinding noise and then a sound like shattering glass.

Window will not come up at all although I can hear the motor turning. Had to pull the window up by holding both sides of it then close the door carefully.

I'd think it's either off the runners or totally knackered inside the door.

I've had it into the Dealers today.

Window Regulator is knackered and the window is off the rails.

Parts, Labour and VAT - £247.50 where I bought the car.

Parts, Labour and VAT - £220.76 the other dealers in Glasgow!

2nd window reg. problem in just over a week, both from across the pond, whats up with this????

I wrote an article about this a while ago, if you check back. I took it to my dealer who quoted similar costs; however, BMW decided to pay for my repair completely free ex gratia. It would have cost about £280 I think. Read my earlier article (use the search facility).

Here's my article:

Whilst out for a drive last Sunday, I put the driver's window down and it began making creaky scraping noises; with some difficulty I managed to raise it and decided to wait till I got home before trying it again.

Having re-tried it, I heard a loud clunking noise and the window failed entirely; I had to pull it up manually. On Monday morning, I phoned Bavarian Garages Belfast and got my car booked very promptly on Wednesday morning. After a breakfast of fresh juice, cheesy croissants and cakes with coffee in their customer cafe, a courtesy taxi lifted me home.

I was phoned later with bad news: the window regulator needed to be replaced at a total cost of over £300GBP. I'd feared the worst.

So, Bavarian phoned me again and arranged to collect me. When I arrived at Reception, I received wonderful news: BMW/Bavarian had decided to replace and repair my window mechanism ex gratia and stood by the replacement.

Exemplary levels of service, understanding and courtesy.
