Just out of interest how much would be a realistic price, i know cat d cars tend to be cheaper but i'm guessing a cat C will be even more cheaper?

It's hard to say without knowing details of how the repair was performed and who it was repaired by.

Not sure on the specifics between Cat C/ D values, but the 25% "discount" has been mentioned often. Imo any offr under £10k may be a bit ambitious.

I was thinking that too but he'll struggle to ship it for the asking price. Any buyer will be looking to keep the car for a very long time and will not be worried about getting rid of it any time soon but at the same time they won't want to pay a ridiculous amount for it. I'd rather buy a non cat high mileage one

some people , !!! who is going to pay proper price for a damaged repaired car , does cat d mean insurance loss and cat c insurance company repaired it but not a write off ? everyone ALWAYS understates the damage on this sort of thing and the photos often never materialise. just over half retail is the right money. I also read once that insurance companies quite often wont pay out fully on a vehicle that has been an insurance loss before. need to check that . that is one arthur daley..... a dodgy motor !!!

It's probably worth more as scrap than 50% retail.

Some insurance companies won't even insure a Cat C write off. However I would want to know who exactly repaired it and would want it examined by my own specialist before even making an offer. Its a tricky one. At that price I wouldn't touch it. There are too many 'straight' ones out there, not in that colour but even so....

Minihen_LDN, you sound tempted.
Offer the guy £10,950 (Cat C/lack of spec/engine clean x rarity/nice interior) and walk away.

I am but only because it's sepang, saying that i did offer him £8k based on what i've seen on his advert.

I personally think anyone would be nuts to pay £10k for a cat c. Different ball game if it was a cat d

If the seller has full details of the repairs that have been performed and the car is inspected and fully signed off my a reputable independent/ BMW, I think £11k would be a steal for the car.

You're not to going to get into an ///MC with relatively low mileage in such a rare colour for anywhere near that ordinarily.

But, as I said all depends on the information available and quality of the repairs.

Why anyone wouldn't clean the engine bay on a car they're selling is beyond me, also in pic 6 the door doesn't look quite right and it may be the light but the front wing and door are a different colour to the back 1/4 :?

Looking through the photos I noticed the rear of the door doesn't meet the skirt and the glass in the door also looks wrong, as if its sticking out, yet the middle of the door to rear wing is correct indicating the door is closed fully.

Only viewing this on my phone, but, looks like:

Paint does not match. Look at how good the paint is at the front of the front wing, compared the the rest of the wing and the door.
Shut line on the top of the rear hatch is too large.
Problem with door glass?
Sill does not fit?

cat C means structural damage I believe
and Cat D is cosmetic
Category A: scrap only – Cat A cars should not be allowed back on the road, as they are so badly damaged that there aren’t even any salvageable parts.

Category B: break for parts – Cat B cars shouldn’t be allowed back on the road, but there will be some parts that can be removed and sold for spares.

Category C: repairable total loss – Cat C cars are allowed back on the road, as the damage is repairable, although the cost of repair is higher than the value of the car.

Category D: repairable significant damage – Cat D cars are also allowed back on the road, because the damage can be repaired. Unlike Cat C, however, the repairs won’t cost more than the value of the car, but it is significant enough for the car to be written off.

Cat D also covers stolen/recovered cars
