Selling watches to fund one nice one

I know there are a few people on here who like watches, so I'll put it out there.

An Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch has really caught my eye. I have seen a few second hand ones for reasonable money and they seem to hold their value.

Currently I have a couple of older Tag's (not worth a huge amount a 2010 F1 Chrono that is my beater and a mint 2000 series), a 2016 F1 Chrono and a couple of lower end Hamilton's (Khaki King Scuba and a Jazzmaster Openheart).

Should I sell these to raise part of the cash for a single Moonwatch then commit the extra funds? I do like all the above and they get good wrist time, however, for me Omega has always been aspirational.

Does the man maths make sense??
 
Keep one beater and sell everything else...

Moonwatch's are great and will always keep money.. They can vary wildly on model/movement so buy carefully so you get decent value.


I used to buy and sell high end watches,but gave up about 10 years ago... Speedy Moons were around £850 and seamasters are £650 at the time...

They have certainly rocketed in price since..
 
Keep a moonlander. Just get one.

I have my dad's 62 moonlander.. yep the 1st one.

Keep an eye on conditions. Not required to buy a minter. It's £400 for a full overhaul with a new case. So if you can save more than that the better.
 
Having just bought a 'Moonwatch' (TinTin) I know what you mean. This was a special birthday present to myself, so the man maths made it sound perfectly reasonable. Unfortunately Z4M-2006 is right, prices have just gone stupid over the last few years, so I have dialed down the level of 'acquiring' a lot. Plus I have enough to keep the wrist happy for a while.... but once you start looking it's easy to start justifying another one ('oooh, don't have a white dial anymore, must get one to round out the collection...').

Also agree with the post above about keeping one (or 2) that you really love, and get rid of the rest. You have to keep some variety, so that the Speedy will feel 'special' every time it goes back on the wrist after an absence
 
All depends how attached you are to the other watches and if you would regret letting them go. I don't think I could part will all or most of my watches to fund a single watch that was outside my budget. I've only ever traded in one watch as part payment for another but it was a watch that always disappointed and I didn't mourn its loss and rarely wore it.

I'm currently looking for a Rolex Datejust and seem a few nice ones on Watchfinder but I'm just going to have to wait a while before it comes into my reach, I couldn't flog my other watches to achieve that.

Keep them all.. save for your Omega..buy outside the UK..plenty of deals on Chrono24.com and cheaper than the standard UK PRICES. Chronext in London ( German) also have good prices on new and used with warranty.

I’ve looked at the finance options, bizarrely the finance provider is actually one of my clients.

When thinking about parting with watches, I think I can let them go, I plan to keep my Rado Cuople and maybe my Hamilton Navy, but the two Tag’s and the Openheart I can let go. I think they would do a decent amount towards a Speedie.
