Selling my M??

As most of you know I have been a proud owner of a stunning 2007 Z4M roadster for the past 6 months.

However I have recently had a complete career change and my free time is now very restricted (6 days 8.30 till 7pm on average).

I only live just over a mile from my work and I hate using something as special as my M for nothing more than a 5 minute drive twice a day.

So unless you guys can convince me otherwise... It's looking like I will be selling up :(

Personally, for a mile, I'd walk to work and save the ///M for a special weekend treat (on your 7th day)

I don't use mind every day (have an Astra diesel for beating miles into), every time I get in my ///M it feels like my birthday :driving:

I think you need to re think your life, on your death bed you will not be wishing you had worked more hours

Don't rush into selling, unless you are really sure. Many on here have sold and then regretted it. Mines a 3rd car, I SORN for 4 months of the year and probably do about 2k a year.

I'm really looking forward to march when I can get it out, when it's dry for some fun. Sometimes thought about selling, but I would need something similar for dome fun and this forum is part of that.

Using a car, any car, for a one mile is not great for car, it won't warm up or environment. If you have to use a car then I'd seriously look electric for a one mile commute. However, a mile is easily walkable or you could get a bike and cycle to work*, saving the zed for special. A mile is nothing on a bike, you won't even build up a sweat so you could easily cycle in work clothes, unlike mine which is 14 miles each way. When I don't use bike, station is about a mile walk, 15/20 mins is all it takes.

*see if work have cycle to work scheme as it'll save you money

i would say walk but i live about 2 miles as the crow flies from mine and i use my Z

seriously tho dont sell just cos you dont want to drive it to work. get some shitty crap heap for that an use the z at every other chance you get

Thanks guys, it's not really a walkable route, it would easy add on a good few miles avoiding the dual carriage way.

Bike maybe an option, electric car would be perfect. At the moment I'm not in a position to buy a 2nd car so that rules that out.

In terms of the hours I now work, yes it's a lot but I'm in a new industry and it's just the way it is for now. I had successfully been self employed for 10+ years, however the late night drinking sector isn't what is was and ultimately I had to grab life by the balls and make a huge keep of faith.

If you don't need the cash, SORN and moth ball it somewhere for a while until it settles down.

The get a £500 banger for the mile! You won't loose any money on the M and the saving on Tax and fuel would pay for a banger until you are settled a bit.

It certainly isn't. I work for a major pub co and we sold 95% of our late night bars a few years ago. I always thought it would recover but now I'm not so sure. Tastes are changing. Keep the M for a little while. Don't do anything too hasty, you can pick up a tidy little banger (or not so banger) for £1,000 quite easily these days.

The only thing that makes it all worth while for all the work I put in is having a nice car.

I too know the feeling of lacking free time I start at 8:15 - 6PM unfortunatly I also have to get a train to work so my day starts at 6am and I get home at 7pm.

Keep the car and smile while you drive its only 1 mile, if I could drive mine for 5 mins daily I would be over the moon.

I've bought and ran 3 separate cars for around £1k over the last few years. Don't do it unless you have an alternative travel option, a good and understanding friend that is a mechanic or good practical experience of mechanics and a lot of patience.

i think that depends on the car you buy, the GF car is a £400 106. she has not done a thing to it (refuses to) other than what was needed at MOT and its never broke. the things that have needed to be fixed are 2 tyres, new discs and pads, the center exhaust pipe so she did the lot as it was only £60, wiper blades. shes had it for over 3 yrs and never even bothered to check the oil till i started doing if for her. it uses no oil what so ever, the same cant be said for the Z :D.

it really depends on the car, how many new cars do you hear that break? the pug is a dog and a totally s**t car but it most certainly is reliable

For a mile, I'd buy something like a Honda C90 - dirt cheap to run.
