Selling a modded car

Morning all.

As the Z is developing well... slowly.

I am going to part with the fiesta.

It's quite heavily modified and unsure on selling it as it is. I do have the original kit still as I'm bit of a hoarder.

I'll probably get around £7k for it standard (on 68k) and the kit itself new is around 3k.

Would I be better of putting it back to standard and having a larger audience and selling the kit for around 1k and trying to sell it for like 8k?

Ideally I'd like it gone asap before the new one is launched and potentially crashes the prices. Although the new one is 3cyl crap and going to start at around 23k.
 
Depends on the mods really.

They won’t necessarily stop it selling, but they’ll likely reduce your target market and may take much longer to sell.

I sold my Corrado VR6 with £12k of mods for less than £7k, and that took 6 months. I couldn’t replace the mods with the original parts as I only upgraded once the original parts were worn out anyway, and I wasn’t going to take the engine apart to remove the modified cams, crank, head, valves.

If you can return to standard, then I’d do so.

The problem is that a big target audience for a modified car is the group most likely to have problems insuring it, you might get a lot of low-ball offers and some dreamers, but they don't call back once they've had a quote :(
 
I don't think the new model will hurt the outgoing one, if I'm honest.

Apparently the new ST will be more of an all rounder with newer tech to help it be more compliant on the roads (read: less hardcore).

The problem with the old St is that it was a bit too 'boy racer'. I loved the 3 we had, but it was tiring to drive long distance with the firm ride and sound symposer.

Would I have another? In a heartbeat! But it would need much better security on it and be standard.

Any car I see that has been modified, I instantly think it's been thrashed to within an inch of it's life. So if you have all the standard bits, I would put them back on to increase your target market and then sell the other bits to increase your money.
 
I'd definitely go back to standard to sell it if possible. While some might appreciate the mods, most probably won't.

You should get more money selling it that way and selling the mods separately.
 
I would go back to standard, you never know if a modded car was done properly, or thrown together with ebay bits and pieces.
 
So I put the motor up as it is. Guy comes to view it... claims he is going to push it to 500bhp... which hasn't been done yet..

Anyway.. turns up on foot.. no proof of any insurance and refuses to show proof of funds...meeting ends.

So trying to sell modded attracts gremlins for sure.

Car is now back to standard. Remarkably webuyanycar are only £600 off the mark at £6450.

What they quote you on their website is never usually what you end up getting. At least it isn't in every single case I've heard!

Says they guarantee it. May give it a try. The car is mint. Not a single chip, mark, wheels are immaculate. History is spot on.
Worth a punt. I'd never take a penny less than that. Will give it a few weeks anyway see how my sale ad gets on.
 
It literally has to be absolute showroom condition. They even got prosecuted for it in 2011...

Got an appointment booked in for Saturday. Should be interesting. They do state they guarantee to pay that valuation.
Hoping to use the change to get a Silvia S12, fancy an old school jap project.
 
I sold my previous z4c through WBAC, quick hassle free sale, lovely guy who was a pleasure to deal with and didn't try to beat the price down or find fault with my car, I got almost what they quoted me, I didn't take the first offer online, but they kept increasing it over time until it was almost what I would have got for the car selling privately. My car was far from perfect paint or interior wise with 149k on the clock. All in all a very pleasant experience, I was very surprised!
