Self opening boots!

Had a quick search but could not find anything!

Just wondering if anyone has fitted a fully self opening boot. On babybmw.net it was a done mod on there by fitting spri gs on the suspension arms. Was thinking if it would work on a coupe or roadster. I find the boot opener on tge key usesless as you still have to open the boot yourself!
 
Surely its not the key that is useless it merely opens the lock - its 'arms' that need changing to get a full opening effect.
 
good idea, could do with a auto closing mod as well im sick of getting finger prints on my shinny boot lid :D
 
I always wondered why the gas struts were so inadequate. It only unlocks it so you have to fully open it. Pretty useless if you have your hands full.
 
well im fitting a mediabridge tomorrow so i might run a piece of string through as well so i can close from the cab. :P

If you have your hands full then there aint no way its gonna fit in that tiny boot... :rofl:
 
That boot has swallowed £150 worth of grocery shopping many times. It's quite large for a roadster.

Yes, thats why you add some washers and some springs to give it the umph to pop the boot open. I was going to do it to my 1er but i knew i was getting rid. Just wondered if anyone had done it to their Z. Ill try and find the link to the 1series ones as there was many experiments to the best spring etc etc for opening the boot but not to much extra resistence when shutting the boot. So i suppose it will be different again for the Z and again from the coupe to the roadster :headbang:
 
Nice idea only thing that would worry me is when I have had the boot fully laden on a Le Mans trip when I lift it sometimes something may drop out where things have moved during the journey no probs if I am standing there to catch the item but if its opening on its own it could damage the rear bumper just a thought

It's the only roadster I've tried that will take a full set of golf clubs in a trolley bag plus the folded trolley and still let you put the roof down... definitely not tiny!!
 
tried to get this working today with various springs due to bordom, forget about it. Our struts basically go in the full way even the smaller light load springs can't compress enough to allow the boot to shut
