self levelling zenons

no response in the non m section for e85/6 queries, so please no "is this an M specific problem ?" posts :poke: I normally notice my headlamps self levelling against the garage wall, but they seem to have stopped self leveling recently, anyone had this or any ideas as to the reason ? thanks :thumbsup:
 
Sorry, no idea - but as least you've got a reply from the ///M owners, so we're obviously not as aloof as non-///M owners :poke:
 
Diy fix........ Its a doddle..

Its connected to rear suspension arm..

The only other thing it could be is the motors in the headlights..Where is the beam pattern when the car is driven? Up/Down?
 
have'nt really noticed wether up or down, is it worth checking if fuses are ok, is it likely that both motors would go together ? would it show as a fault code it it were a sensor do you reckon, ? thanks
 
I would have thought that if you have some decent diag software then you could force activate the sensor to make sure it works.. I doubt that a fault code would be stored.

Its rare for both motors to fail,but not unknown.......

Usually when the sensor breaks,or the rod dislodges on the sensor then the headlights point low when operated..
 
Its more likely to be the motor in the headlights than the level sensor on the suspension.
 
Nope.... But you probably only notice them if you quickly turn the lights on..

Daffy............How do you arrive at that assumption?
 
They always self level so something is wrong, seeing as both lights have their own motors the chances of both failing at the same time are infinitesimal. I'm not sure what the fuse setup is but would imagine each side has it's own fuse too so again unlikely to be both, i'd go with someone else's suggestion and try to manually trigger/short the sensor or if the sensor itself has a fuse check that.
 
Because even cars without xenons do the auto-adjust uppy downy thing and they don't have the level sensors on the front and rear axles.

Yes but the command for level check comes from the body module.. But on xenon equipped cars the headlights self check will level to where the level sensor dictates,unlike non xenons that just go up/down..

If the level sensor is broken,then the module negates the self check...

Like you say,it could be the motors though.....It needs looking at to confirm.

Also M4S......Disconnect battery for 5 mins,it may correct itself ;)
 
well, checked them out again and they are in fact working, i guess once they have levelled they dont do it again if the car has not been driven ? but they are levelling but you cant make them do it repeatedly whilst car stationary , normal ? also does anyone know the sequence for the headlamp washers ? when the lights are on, and i use the screenwash function i noticed a big spray from the lamp washers, but couldnt seem to make it wash again, if the wipers are on constant, are they supposed to self actuate at any given interval ? thanks :? :thumbsup:
