Selector Pins 05 3.0i

My shift knob has been fighting me the past couple weeks going into gears, especially 1st-3rd. Ended up going to the dealer only for them to diagnose it with bad selector pins. I assure you that is the main problem. Ihave just a few questions

1- How long can i drive with bad selector pins and what would be the damage to the rest of the clutch

2- I was estimated 2k for the job, i know they have to do a whole lot of labor, but still seems very steep, especially since the part is 50$

3- the car has 19k miles on it, since this is probably the first of many issues, what should i also replace since they will be taking the entire tranny off.

thanks.

yes i live in Florida. I have already done some little things at the dealer and they have done things extremely cheap and on the fly for me so i figured it wouldn't hurt to get an estimate.
