I’m sure this has been done before but thought I would share.
Most people want to have the flap in the open position permanently which is fine, but on a cold start it sounds awful.
Mine was all connected but did nothing.
I first checked the actuator by attaching a vacuum pump to the rubber line disconnected first, so I could verify the electric signal and the solenoid were working which they were.
Next I tried to move the flap and it was jammed solid.
I then tried loads of PB blaster and I helped but still extremely stiff.
Next I took my MAP gas and heated the flap and it then moved freely by placing a 9mm spanner on the spindle underneath. I could then cycle it to free it off.
Next using BimmerLink I cycled the flap with the car running. Worked great until the exhaust cooled then became stiff again.
Today I took a file and took any rough edges off the flap and used emery cloth to smooth all the surfaces. Then graphite grease and working like a charm.
Most people would not be bothered I know but if it’s there I want it working. Just need to keep it maintained now
