Wow... think I may have seen it before & never realised what it was, almost two bright lights travelling at a fair wack, though might get reported as the quiet lane I stopped with no immediate lights had about 4 cars go past & am sure they were all wondering why some psycho was stopped in the middle of nowhere looking up at the sky
I saw it a couple of Fridays ago on a night cycle ride from Hyde park corner to Whitstable. Somewhere outside gravesend on the medway canal tow path at 2am.... It does indeed move fast.....
I got into astronomy in 1996. As that was when i started night shift driving across Wyoming. Talk about dark skies. It was dark enough and the sun spot cycle was so strong back then. I could see the northern lights while driving my 18 wheeler. I like looking for nebula's and globular clusters. Like NGC 6205 In Hercules. 25,000 light years away. The Andromeda galaxy is an easy target for binoculars or unassisted if it's really dark.
How does this work though? I assume its reflecting the sun, but by the time it went out of sight, the app said it was over Munich...and I'm in Devon! How can I see it with the naked eye?
"Observation of the International Space Station
The International Space Station can easily be spotted with the naked eye. Because of its size (110m x 100m x 30m) it reflects very much sunlight."
