With non runflats ordered for Friday I am considering a 17" space saver for the boot. I understand that for the MOT, if a spare is fitted it must be secured. This also seams like the right thing to do because under heavy cornering it could get thrown from side to side. Has anyone found a good way to secure a space saver so it doesn't move around?

I bought one from an advert on here posted by someone who had sold his Coupe.
It came complete with an E46 jack and wheelbase, and a securing device he'd made up. He had cut a piece of 3/4" plywood, screwed it to a coupe of bits of wood so it levelled up with the "step" in the boot floor and put a couple of 4" or so bolts into the ply pointing upwards that would align with 2 of the holes in the space-saver then cut a couple of bits of steel and put a thread in them to hold the wheel down. And then stuck Velcro to the bottom of the bits of wood so they would stick to the carpet.
Photo isn't too great, but hopefully shows enough. If anyone is interested I'll take a better one - without the wheel in the way!

I picked up one of these, it has velcro on one side. Added 2 more bits and mine sits in the boot ok.

That is true, but that should only be for the drive to the garage. What a cover will do is prevent the space saver making everyday boot objects dirty and also prevent small everyday objects accidentally falling through the holes in the steel rim. I am happy to pay £8 for those benefits.
