Second Car ?

just sounding out ideas.. but does anyone in the UK deliberately have a second car just to keep their Zed locked away nice and safe ?

I've done too many miles on my M and somneone has scratched it (very lightly) but I think it's time to buy a dog to use everyday around the crappy london streets..

So - the brief - all in for a grand. that's MOT, tax & purchase price, and the fuel to get me back =)

I'd like a diesel and as much as it pains me to say it, you can get a lot of cheap french stuff.. 306, xantia etc, all with 100k but i get the impression this shouldn't be an issue =)

Hi Andy, I'm in the US but I'll tell you my 2nd vehicle anyway. I have an old 1988 Chev. Silverado that's my 'dog'. It does everything. The Z is strictly for pleasure. It stays locked up in the garage, usually covered but not always, until I'm ready to ride. My truck is a one-owner; I bought it brand new in 1988 and just rebuilt the motor, so it's a sweetie too! I just don't mind SO much if I come out from shopping somewhere (which I detest anyway but must be done), and there's a small boo-boo.
My Z doesn't do grocery stores, doctor's appointments, errands or chauffeuring. I have avoided so far anyone dinging it. Although there are no guarantees of course, I believe having a 2nd vehicle has significantly reduced the chances of dings by careless drivers and run-a-way carts.

Andy, I have considered it on many occasions but the thing is running another car gets quite expensive, even if it's just something rubbish - two sets of tax, insurance, etc etc. But the main thing that got me was the amount of money spending on a car, just for it to sit in the drive doing nothing, whilst I'm driving around in a complete dog.

But if you do get something else, remember to buy a "My other car is an ///M" sticker for it :P
 
I do this, I've always got another car to use and tend not to use the Zed for anything mundane like going to work, shops etc. In fact quite a few people who know me have never seen the my Z4MC and have got no idea that I could even afford such a car.
Don't think you have to buy a dog though, you can buy a very decent motor for a few grand these days, big engines put people off cars now. Buy with a little bit of thought and you can run a second car and change it regular when you get bored with it for next to nothing. I picked up this 330i SE a couple of months ago for a song.

My second car is a truck too! I drive a Ford though...sorry F-N-I :wink: ! It's an '02, V10, F250 crew cab that I bought brand new and it's all paid off now.
Sometimes I take my wifes car to run errands, it's an '07 Honda Accord EX-L.
And for work I drive a company van! That ones not too exciting but it is new! an '07 E350 (I like Ford's, what can I say).
Then there is always my motorcycles for when I'm feeling the need for real speed... :evil:
 
CaZ4-It's OK, I forgive you lol :lol: . I hate Fords personally and my brother might disown me if I actually ever bought one but yours sounds like an awesome truck. I drive a Crown Vic for work when I'm not in a Fire Truck and I love it. I hear you about the motorcycles' real speed - I'll bet your daughter is a real pistol - I just love that shot of her doing a mini-wheelie on that tiny little thing!
I think having a 2nd vehicle as your 'bitch' makes driving the Z that much more special. Then again, I like variety with respects to toys.

Oh yeah, I have always had a second car. It really helps when owning a two seater. My other car is what everyone calls the box! Flahertypics022520060432.jpg

that was early this spring before I put down some weed and feed. It's only the second season of the lawn. I just built the house and moved in last Feb.

I know, I have some work to do.
