Second car for under £3k

I don't think you will go too far wrong with the VRS Woody :) hell of alot of performance for the cash, I have run a couple of V6 mondeos as cheap second cars they have been dependable in my experience. :driving:

Thanks Lee, yer I thought about the Mondeo ST220 too:

Just a bit thirsty, lots of toys as standard though compared to the Skoda...

Skoda looks a good bet- don't listen to the badge snobs

Thanks Rob. Yer the ad for the Skoda does feel me with confidence, receipts, paperwork and the car (even the unpractical white interior!) look pristine.

So any links for that Subaru?

The vRS has the same 20v 1.8T as the Cupra, but IMO in a more practical package. The Leon's are good but seem to fetch higher prices for equivalent specs. Plus it's still a bit too small, and not a fan of the looks (yer I know the Skoda is no Katherine Jenkins!)

Thats a great work horse with a touch of pace for 3k :)

I think when dreamer junior comes along i might consider something like this to try keep hold of the M. In reality though, i'll end up with two of these and no M :(

Haha, tell me about it! Want to keep my M as long as possible, just wouldn't mind having something more useable...

I actually prefer that version of Octavia vRS to the newer one. If you can put up with the brand jibes they're a very competent car with VAG quality

Well not 3k but you might get it 3.5 and it comes withe Nav and a roof rack !

I'd check the wing out though might have a scratch on it

I like the VRs but have never liked that 1.8T engine.

The thought of running 2 cars with 16 years between them, one an M and both high tax brackets makes my wallet shudder. Been there, done that (kind of) and I felt like all I ever did was pay for servicing, MOTs, tax and insurance. Even you manage to stagger them through the year that's 8 months your paying for something that doesn't make your car look better or go faster.

Few changes in my circs and also wanting to do less miles on the MC has led to me looking at getting a second car. Under £3k, still nippy and has to be reliable. Also needs to be a large hatch or estate. Basically a bit of a work horse that's still fun etc. Having had one of these as my previous car:

and owning/enjoying for 5 years, I'm swaying towards this:

What do you think? (Please, save the 'Skoda' jokes!)

Any other thoughts/recommendations?

Well it's sold, no surprise as it was pretty tidy and a good price :(

Ah well, the search continues...
