great choice & can't go wrong with VW reflex silver
check the history for DSG oil & filter change , if not done then i would make it a priority at 9yrs old & 70k .
105hp a bit underpowered for a heavy auto but otherwise you have yourself a bulletproof car capable of many tasks

Thanks for your advice. DSG flashing light was the first problem we had this afternoon. All gear positions on MFD were flashing, but the car still changed gears as normal. I got home and checked DSG common problem. The faulty mechatronic unit may be the cause of the problem, and a new one will cost around £2k. It needs to be sorted out before the AA warranty expires in 3 months. Some Audi/VW owners said the fault forced the car back to neutral when driving.
As you said oil/filter change is important, I will phone the VW dealer and check if the car had it done at 40k miles.

Some dealers can be vague about when the DSG needs servicing , some suggest 40k some 60k ? the oil itself is expensive (around £75 ?) think approx £250 at a dealer all in ,
iF the DSG box has problems they are usually bad news indeed & not all warranty companies insure them , we had to go with WD for this reason & personally i wouldn't run a DSG car without warranty on it .
Hope you get it sorted . nothing worse than a new motor with problem's
My Edition 30's box started to get a bit "grabby" as it changed down as i came to a halt. The dealer found a service bulletin that indicated in the case of these symptoms to change the mechatronic unit. They then told me that each one is individual to the car and are a factory order. My car sat in the dealers car park for a month...
The 3-month AA Warranty covers "Engine Management - Engine Electronic Control Unit (ECU), automatic transmission governor (computer governor), anti knock sensor, MAP sensor."
Does automatic transmission governor (computer governor) above refer to Mechatronic Control Unit?
And it only covers "Automatic Gearbox - The following internal mechanical components are covered: governor, valve block, oil pump, gears, brake bands, servos, clutches, seals, shafts, bearings and bushes, modulator valve, transfer gears."

once on the blink they are usually replaced hence the high costs to cover with warranty .
Warrantywise were quite clear when i questioned them that their policy would not cover any work to DSG gearboxes & the garage i bought from used a warranty company with £750 maximum any 1 claim ,
Are you able to reject the car & seek refund ? if so then that's what i would do , A 54 basic Golf for £6k isn't exactly bargain money so you should expect it to be 100 % faultfree
