Seatbelt recoil

My seatbelt is now starting to lack a proper recoil, obv that is not good! I fear this could be rather expensive!?
It holds tight if you yank it, but it doesn't pull back into the mount very well.

Anyone had/seen this issue, what is the best fix please?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

A new belt is not to terribly expensive..

I did a quick search of my online suppliers, and the cost was $54.00 (US)

You may be able to remove the mechanism from the car and clean it out. It may retract better

Thank you very much, most appreciated. I will get a local specialist to have a look if I can't sort it myself as suggested above. Cool.

They are the same belts as in the 3 Series I believe. In my 3 series I have already had one replaced and now both are very slow in retracting (nearly 9 years old). BMW tell me that it is not a known problem and I am just unlucky to have 3 with the same problem on the same car!
