Seatbelt / airbag light

So after the car sitting for 2 days, the seatbelt / airbag light has come on. I've unplugged all of the plugs under both seats (Jesus there are loads!!!) and plugged them back in and the light is still there.

Anyone got any thoughts as to the issue, or is this a trip to BMW?
Thanks

If you're under warranty I'd go right back to the stealers.

If not I'll see what I can find as I've not seen this issue before. With you saying airbag and seatbelt is this the same lamp? Can you post the pic?

Also do you have a code scanner?

Yeah i've got an insured warranty on it. The excess is £100.

Normally where the date and time is, the picture of the airbag comes up. Also, the airbag lamp and the seatbelt lamp come on in the section of the dashboard near the indicators.

I do have a scanner, but it's a pretty old one that used to work on my S2000. Not sure if it's up to scratch for the BMW...

EDIT: Scanner doesn't work, but when i hold down the BC knob i get cc-id 97?

Google seems to suggest it could be the occupancy mat in the seat. Perhaps you've been kneeling on it? It was a weak spot on the e85/6 as I recall. I'd suggest resetting the code if you can get a scanner and if it comes up again it's warranty time.

Thanks for your help - don't recall kneeling on it, or putting any pressure on it other than my behind! :)
I did see some scary thread on an M3 about a battery throwing weird codes like the seat occupancy one, but i've not been anywhere near the battery on the Zed.

Battery's on bmws are weird old things. Clear the code if you can and see if it happens again then you might have more to go on.

Error message was that the passenger occupancyt mat had been triggered. Code had been reset and the guy removed and re-plugged in all fo the connectors.

Hopefully it won't trigger again.

What does that mean, the mat had been triggered?

Sorry that came out differently in my head.
Message said that a break in the mat connection had been noticed and triggered the alarm. He said it could have been down to a knock breaking the connection for a second.

He said that the connections are similar to old SCART leads, and aren't very secure.

was away for the weekend and had the same warning lights come up on the dash. was doing lots of driving on bumpy Isle of Wight roads so hopefully it is something as simple as a knocked connection. the manual says it could be a failure of the airbag system and to get it checked immediately but BMW said in 95% of cases it is a passenger seat sensor like you had here.

taking it for diagnostics on Friday so hopefully all will be well.
