Seat repair good, airbag light bad

Took the Z in to a retrimmer today and had a small hole in the driver seat repaired and the bolster plumped up. When dropping the car off I said to the guy to make sure he didn't trigger the airbag.

"No problem, been doing this for 30 years. I don't need to remove the battery, the car just needs to shut itself down for 30 minutes and we can then get cracking. No problems. "

What can go wrong?

So, the airbag light is on and the guy has the computer and software but not on site. If I can't fix it myself (I told him I have INPA but not sure I can get it to reset the light) I can go back on Saturday morning. Well I tried but no luck. Maybe it's just a bad reconnection on the wiring but if not (I'll check tomorrow) it needs to go back.

What software does he need to have to fix the light? I told him that the E85 is unlike any other BMW of the era but he wouldn't have it.

Just got a bad feeling this will turn into one of those long-winded repairs.
 
INPA should be able to reset it, I did mine after the seat sensor went bad. It would come back on eventually but then when I put in the mat/belt override module it went off for good.

What's the steps in the program you're using to turn it off?
 
I'm using a couple of menus:

Instrument Cluster - Read Memory
This tells me the light is on, the error is something like "an error is causing the telltale light to show". I cleared this error.

Safety Module - Read Memory
I get a mismatch error but can still access the menus. I read the memory which tells me there is a Voltage issue. I cleared the error.

Safety Module - Shadow Memory (?? I think this is what is was)
As above, read the error and cleared it.

No other errors on the car. After clearing, I read the Safety Module and found the ENABLED! was highlighted one of the screens telling me thr airbag indicator status. Not sure what this means. Anyweay, after all resets there is still the light on. So, battery disconnected for an hour, no difference, light still on.

I am wondering (and of course will check later) if the seat hasn't been reconnected properly. Anything else I could be checking on INPA?
 
I seem to remember doing a clear all from INPA > safety > satellite B pillar modules when I was doing the seat mat stuff. Maybe do the same for A if it's the driver's side?

Annoyingly I took the cable out of my bag the other day, otherwise I'd go out and have a fiddle at lunch. I should be able to test it tonight if no-one with more familiarity jumps in

Superb, you were right. Didn't think to look at the front pillar module bit, but that was indeed the error and resetting it has turned the light off.

Learning new stuff every day. :thumbsup:
