Seat leather stretched -help

Hi

The seat leather on the driver and passenger side of my zed has stretch marks where it has become loose. (ie drivers side where the movement from the leg using the clutch has stretched the leather) BMW is refusing to fix it under warranty. The car had low k's on it and its pretty poor to have stretched so much in that time.

Is this a common problem with the z4m? Doesn't seem to occur on the standard z4 - different type of leather. Any tips on how to get this replaced other than bitch more at BMW?

This is common to all Z4s I'm afraid. Some people have managed to get BMW to replace it, others haven't. They will replace it if the stitching has come apart or if the heater element has stopped working but otherwise it will be a battle.

If you have a coloured leather, you also have to worry about shade variation between what you've got and what you'll get.

my local dealer whom i have a very good relationship with inspected my leather after my complaint, they were reluctant to change the cover as they say its quite a common issue and isnt really a fault more of a quirk with leather. Anyhow i popped into a local re-trimers to get their opnion on my leather looking quite saggy bear in mind this is a weekend only car and one that is pampered so much its almost rediculous, i never sit on the bolters and make sure im not wearing anythink with sharp bits on the back ect ect anyhow after thier inspection they deemed the leather to not have been fitted correctly in the firstplace which caused the sagging and weird stretch marks, i got them to write their findings and before i knew it i had a brand new seat cover fitted and now i dont have the same issue.

hope this helps, if you want i can post some before and after pics when i get home, mine wasnt to bad but im a perfectionist and it just had to be right, and why not when you pay this much for a car!

Beedub where did you take it to be inspected? Mine has a large crease in I'd like sorting but doubt it would be covered under warranty, also the leather is starting to look shiney in places.

Hi Beedub

Would you mind posting a pic ? I'd like to see if its the same problem as mine. I'm also very fussy about my car.

every /M i've ever seen has the crease.. isnt it normal ? :tumbleweed:

Even if it is normal - I'm still not happy. I've had/got several $100k + cars and haven't had a problem with leather seats. Surely BMW could have picked a leather that wouldn't stretch, especially for their top model z4.

It does seem strange that in a top of the range BMW you have to treat the leather like it was made of rice paper. I check I'm not wearing anything rough like a belt, then ease in to miss the bolster, keep the seat low friction by spraying with a touch of detailer etc etc. So far seats are OK with little wear.
