Seat heater problem

Hi,

I have a 2006 3.0si Coupe with electric seats (red leather, M sport) and a few days ago I noticed that the heaters are not working (on both seats). When I press the heater button the three green lights come on but then turns off after 1 to 2 seconds. If I press again it does the same things. But afterwards the lights won't turn on at all. This happens on both seats. Until the next time I use the car when it does the same thing. Any ideas on what could be wrong? There are no warning lights on the dashboard and the electric seats adjustments all work fine. The A/C and (normal) heater works fine.

On a side note - the car came with a warranty with VGS, anyone has any feedback about these guys (in case this is a major repair)?! Very worryingly if you Google "vgs car warranty" the top search results is a forum thread on PistonHeads! And VGS doesn't seem to have a website at all!

Thanks!

I'd take it to an indy and have them hook it up to the diagnostics to read any faults that are present regarding the seats. Hopefully it is something simple to resolve.

As for the warranty, it seems VGS don't actually offer warranties direct to the consumer more that they are offered through a third party. Don't you have any paperwork for the warranty?

Largely supposition as I've never heard of this fault before, but note the following:

The seat movement is unrelated to the heating
The aircon, fans, heater, etc, are unrelated
If both seats respond the same then the fault is unlikely to be seat related, unless there is a check circuit that tests both seats??

I'd be looking at a fault in the switch panel or main wiring feed to it. switch it on, detects a fault and switches off.

Put a call into the warranty company and see what they say.

Thanks for the replies. I do have the policy details, etc from VGS so will give them a call. I checked the policy last night and one of the (many) exclusions in the "Electricals" group has "heater elements" listed so I'm not sure if this will be covered.

Can anyone recommend a good specialist/independent garage in north London?

I can understand that exclusion, but if it turns out to be the switch or something else it could well be covered.

Certainly best to speak to them 1st so the claim is registered (validated or rejected) and advice given before seeking out any specific garage or repair.
