Seat comfort

So I've had my Zed a few days now (53 plate) and have come to the conclusion that the seats are possibly the most uncomfortable I have ever sat in - I'm pretty tall and the curved bit of the seat digs right into my back as it seems to stick out a mile.

I've tried no end of adjustment but it's still the same.....are the sports seats any better at all?! If not I feel that I may have to get rid as it's really putting me off :(
 
I used to have the standard seats. The sport seats are much much better. But they do command quite a premium in price. When i had the standard seats i used to get lower back pain. I made some spacers to raise the front of the seat and that really helped. I still have them and your welcome to have them and try them. As it would be shame to get rid of a good car due to a seat.
 
I found the standard seats weren't particularly comfortable, although not to the degree you are experiencing. I felt that they lacked side support and thigh support, and that I was sitting on them rather than in them.
Anyway, like Machine monkey, I have managed to swap them for a pair of M Sports seats. Like MM says, they are expensive and difficult to find so I would make sure its worth the time and investment if you go down that route. Perhaps you could try someone's Zed who has them - even as a passenger, to see if they suit?

They are thirteen years old and weren't very comfortable to start with, how many miles has your car got?
 
I'd say if you can afford it then get some recaro cs seats.
Guy on m3cutters sells them frequently albeit usually with lotus badge on them (sometimes without though)
Typical price is like 1200 for heated leather recaro cs.

Guess I'm the only one that doesn't mind the Standard seats :D I quite like them never thought they're were uncomfortable, and in this weather with the heated seats on its been a delight. Would still get the sport seats if I had the dosh.

100k miles so it's not unexpected that they would have changed slightly. I think I might see if I can try a car with the sports seats and see how they feel - anyone in Surrey/Hampshire able to help me out?!

I don't want to get shot of the car as I think it's great, however I get put off the thought of driving it because of the seats and that's a shame!
 
This is interesting because, I actually found the sports seats to be uncomfortable. I was originally aiming for sports trim, but the seats put me off. Tried the SE seats and found them more comfortable when I first sat in them... Until my first over an hour drive, that is. :( After an hour the back pain started creeping in (I very rarely experience back pain in my daily life). I think this also has to do with the slightly offset position of the pedals. Basically you are sitting in that car with your body twisted in an awkward position.

So my personal conclusion is, none of the Z4 seats are 100% comfortable (at least not to me). I wonder if the sports seats provide better comfort during longer driving sessions?

Try what I mentioned above, not sure how but someone on hear many moons ago mentiond raising the front of the seat. I followed the advice and my back pain was gone. I still felt like I had to lick the doors to stop falling out when going round corners. But raising the front of the seat an inch really helped me.
 
raising the front of the seat will help. The manual seats dont have this adjustment from factory but electric base ones you can tilt the front up

I had electric base seats and it still helped!
 
Raising the back an inch really helps too as it puts more weight distributed over your legs on the seat base. I don't like doing it though as even all the way down I feel too high in the car.

I don't have a problem with them either. A little lacking in lateral support but no problems like others.
