Seat Belt Warning Light/Sound

Every now and then my seat belt warning light pops on and the warning sound beeps away (which is very annoying) while i am driving with my seat belt securly in place. I've unclipped and fastened the belt again etc to try and stop it but nothing seems to work. It then randomly goes off again 3/4 minutes later. I'm guessing that the sensor is faulty and wondered whether this is easily fixed or will this be covered by my warranty (car is 2 1/2 years old) and therefore should I take it to the dealer.

This will by covered by warranty, but the dealer will want to see the fault before doing anything.
 
It could also be the passenger seat as that has a pressure sensor in it. I've heard of problems like this related to the passenger side, so perhaps also try clipping the passenger seat belt and see if that stops it.

Also, if you put your briefcase or anything in the passenger seat, it can trigger the warning if it's heavy enough!

I never thought of that but i do put my briefcase on the passenger seat so it could be that!! thanks!
 
fitzy, it will defintely be that Smokin is right, mine used to do it all the time so I kept the passenger belt clipped in, it also stopped it rattling around too.
 
Then there you have it. Funnily I never posted about putting something on the seat as it seemed a bit too obvious and assumed you would have picked up on that already :oops:
 
Ive jumped out of my skin many a 5am morning when my lunch box has been on the passenger seat and set the buzzer off frightened the life out of me the first time it did it as i didnt know we had sensors!

There has to be a sensor else the system does not know to activate the airbag and seat belt tensioner. Without a passeger of course they would not deploy. Obviously the drivers side does not need one.
 
this happened to me today. it was the passenger side at fault since clipping the seat belt stopped it. there was nothing on the seat.

i'm guessing it's the sensor. anyone know where it is in the seat? any ideas on costs?
