Seat Belt Retractor

Does anyone know whether there is an adjustment to get more take up in the seat belt retractor? Mine has been pronounced "normal" by BMW, yet it always lets the belt hang after getting out of the car. I have to hand feed it back into the reel

I had the same problem but BMW fixed my drivers side and replaced the passengers under the warranty. You may want to try and fight it with them. Initially they said the same thing but after I made enough of a stink they went ahead and took care of it.

this may depend on your seat position as well. If its pushed too far back and down .

That's not normal. Mine snap back without issue taight to the seats.

You do not say what age of car but a couple of pointers:

Have you tracked the belt right back to the retractor? It's very common on some BMW's to get a twist in the belt. I had this on both rear belts on an X5 and it made them very poor at retracting, but until I removed the trim I could see no reason.

Secondly while investigating that issue it was pointed out to me that fluff builds up in the mechanism and is also a cause for slow retracting. Suggestion was to vacuum out. Obviously if new an unlikely cause.
