Seat Back Cover

Hello,

My driver side seat has its seat back detached from the seat. I went BMW and purchased OEM clips that sit at the bottom (which hold up the seat). I put those clips in, and it holds the back from the bottom. However, none of the clips on the side or top look to be broken. I can get the seat to click back, but after driving for a while it becomes undone.

I was wondering what I can do to fix this? I’m also totally open for dirty solutions like glue etc. I do live in a very warm climate.

Thank you!

Normally the problem is the seat back is cracked where the lower clip goes in and it allows the seat back to sag down causing the upper clips to come out. I repaired mine with fiberglass cloth and resin and then I ditched the plastic push pins and use a spring clip with a bolt. Haven't had a problem in 4 years.

Oh I see, yep, I found that there’s a rip in the very bottom where I put the two new pins in! Or are you referring to the side pins of the seat?

For the pin at the bottom, how would I want to stick the ripped part together?

Thanks!

I cut out the cracked part and used fiberglass cloth and Polyester resin to rebuild it. It is way stronger than the pressed wood fibers that BMW used to make the seat back.

Oh great, I'll give this a try. Did you end up buying certain materials from Harbor Freight or Home Depot? Would love to buy the same stuff you did and give it a try :)

I used "Bondo" brand resin and glass cloth, both available at HF, HD, and any auto parts store.
