Saw this E86 for sale on ebay and thought the spec looked a little unusual...

I didn't know you could get an SE with a sport button and anthracite headlining. I thought that was only for Sport models.

I had a 3.0si se with the sport button, the se part only relates to the trim and the si part is the engine spec.
Everything is available as an extra anyway, my se had m sport seats & suspension from new

The sport button is on every 3.0 I think. Anthracite headlining on an SE car is strange though

This SE spec car may have Anthracite headlining but is has the standard sports seats, its the M Sports seats you want that come as part of the 'sport' spec. (Some SE spec cars have m sport seats fitted as optional extras but not this one)

So, in theory, could someone have ordered an SE and specced it with everything to make it a Sport model? Didn't BMW put anything on the the SE that is unique to the SE only?

The one thing I know BMW didn't offer as an option on the SE was the M steering wheel. Sure enough, this one has the non-M. Nice car though. But then it's a coupe... they all look amazing :D

SE Springs

Mine is an SE with full m sport spec other than steering wheel, springs/dampers/roll bars and wheels (as star spokes only came on SE cars as an option.

My SE has the sport button and luckily for me the previous owner spent a fair few pounds on options including M.Seats boy do I like that heating this time of year :D

My e85 SE has a cracking spec, sport button, fully heated Msport seats, msport suspension, cruise control etc. It did have the nicer wheels from the factory options list too but these have been replaced with BBS CK’s.

Oh and it’s Maldives Blue which I believe was also an option 😃

That does seem a strange spec. :o

I've had 2 Sport models, but would have looked at an SE with the M-Sport seats. I could live without the suspension & steering wheel, and am definitely not a fan of the black headlining! But I suppose if you want to be that picky you needed to buy it new!

I think this thread is now confusing pre and post face-lift cars. Basically all pre's are SE's. Well all bar the very early cars which are technically called i's. Although the standard spec on the i's and SE's is identical. So before 06 you got an SE but with things like anthracite heading and in the case of 3.0 m sport suspension that were later reserved for the sport models. The post cars however came as a SE or Sport. With the sports getting all the nice bits.
