sDrive23i Fuel Consumption

Can any owners of the sDrive23i please post average fuel consumption?

Mine is currently only achieving 20-23mpg but my local dealership is telling me there is nothing wrong. Surely this can't be right?!

Thanks

I have a 28i auto. I am now on my third tank since new and achieving 35 average. Not driven hard yet as running in.

Just got rid of my 23i and averaged 34 mpg over nearly 3yrs, but only used for runs out etc, and not driven particularly hard.

I've had my manual 23i for just over four years now and average 33mpg running about the doors and get high 30's on longer trips, like touring the continent. However, I have noticed that the mpg does suffer when you drop the top and use aircon when in warmer countries.

Possible reasons:

Frequent short journeys, 3 miles or less?
Aggressive driving, hard acceleration and late braking?
Regular use of the air con?
Incorrect tyre pressures?

Average 33mpg.
But if I was to drive in local commuter traffic, it could possibly be down in the twenties.
On a good mix of a roads/motorway goes up to 45 even 50 with light foot.
I don't think it would improve by running higher octane fuel, but running a few tank fulls of Shell V-max made a noticeable difference when I went back to the basic unleaded.
Just seem to run smoother.

Thanks for all of the feedback - it's appreciated.

It's a 2011 manual with 12k on the clock and used for relatively short commute in light traffic with a light right foot (most of the time).

Even on a long run I've not seen more than 25mpg as of yet. I'm now manually calculating again before taking back to BMW. A specialist has suggested it might be over cooling.

Does sound poor.

Ours gets about 28 on a mix of local driving and commuting - and into the mid 30s on longer trips. (it's an auto)

Just done the 600 miles down and back to Cornwall mostly on the M5/M1 and I was getting 39 mpg according to the trip computer (28i)

On Shell V Power fuel, sitting on the motorway in 6th gear for a 100 mile stint with cruise control set to 70mph, I managed to get up to 38mpg but that was an unusually steady drive.

Normal consumption is 34mpg for my weekly 520 mile motorway trip.

Town use / spirited driving will achieve more like 25mpg, if I recall correctly.

Definitely sounds on the low side; my 2010 23i manual averages 30-32 on a mix of town-country road commuting, and not hanging around when I'm in the mood... Would definitely get it checked out again... Good luck resolving it :)

Only had mine for a few days but can report (using the on-board computer) 38.9mpg on a 120 mile motorway trip with the roof on, at about 75mph indicated. Local journeys roof down, of about 20-30 miles with a warm engine and giving it some beans it drops down to about 32.

It's a manual 2.3i sDrive with 17" RFTs, and has done 20k miles.

34 on average over the 2 years owned. Complete mix of urban and rural, motorway. Not driven hard but always with the sport button on and I like to accelerate whenever possible :D
