Scuff and scrape (The nice person drove off!)

So, somebody reversed into my car today and drove off. My partner saw it happen, regrettably the CCTV can't make out the registration. However the establishment we were in said he was a regular and they'll get his reg next time he is in.

However, if that doesn't come up good, I'm hesitant to go through my own insurance. It will go down as fault claim in the absence of a third party to claim against and my no claims is currently unprotected (foolish!), I have a £400 excess and then there is the reduced NCB until it builds back up and a fault claim against me.

The headlight scrape can almost definitely be sanded out which i'm happy to do. However the wing has been pushed back in where it meets the light and it is on the edge so unlikely that it can be pull out. Added to that the impact has caused a slight buckle mid-way along the arch. I assume this will need a new wing? I don't know what is possible.

Does anybody have any idea what sort of ball park i'm looking in?

Before i cleaned it up:

Wow that is a bummer, it's p1ssed me off and it's not even my car :x I can't help you on costing but I hope you find the guy

Feel for you. People make such mess and half the time don't even know, most of the rest don't care...

Go to a pro body shop. I'm sure they will pull and smooth all that out. My best guess is to straighten, prep and spray £300-£500, depending if they respray all the bumper and wing

Do you think that wing would pull out , fill & spray :? Think id want that off :(

I would be so angry if that had happened to mine. I would try and get the dent pulled out, filled and sprayed, and it is as easy as that for you. Hopefully you will have it back in A1 condition soon.

I think so. My buddy runs an accident repair and paint shop and it's amazing what is pulled back to shape and smoothed off.
They spot weld loops on crease line and pull them out. Quite amazing to see.

I'd take it in - worst they can say is 'needs a new wing and full bumper spray'.

That said I'd get the reg and pursue the offender if possible before I touch anything.

Where about's are you?

I have a black sapphire nearside front wing. It's had a repair in the same area and been resprayed. I can send you pictures if you pm me your email, but it's not something I would want to post due to possible damage. I'f you are in the south east though might be an option.

Thanks everyone! To say I was upset when I discovered the damage is an understatement. It is however one of those things, there will always be people not willing to take responsibility for their actions!

I took the car down to a body shop, which is very local, but rather hidden, that relies on word of mouth (no internet or social media presence) and the chap was very friendly and very helpful. He was confident that the wing could be pulled out/straighten without too much issue, he is sending over a quote today, but reckoned it would be around £230 + VAT. If that is the price that comes even I won't even bother with the insurance and I'll get it booked in asap.

This is on the basis that worst case scenario, I have to pay my £400xs, the driver of the other car is never found and it goes as a fault claim. This will as a result mean that when my policy comes to renew in 4 weeks my NCB is reduced and my premium shoots up and I am stuck with my current insurer for the time being as most new insurers are hesitant about taking drivers on mid claim. Then I have to disclose a fault claim for 5 years and my NCB steps back from 7 to 3 (I will protect this time around!)

Best case, submit a claim, pay £400xs as fault not yet determined, driver is found, claim is on-going beyond renewal date, NCB is reduced whilst insurer tries to obtain confirmation of liability from third-party insurer. Unable to move insurer whilst still open and renewal premium increases in the interim. £400xs is returned at a later time once liability is agreed, but I still have to disclose a non-fault claim for 5 years. Whilst this on its own will have little bearing on premium, if I have a second non-fault or even a fault claim at some point in the 5 years, premiums will rise significantly.

A bit galling that I have to pay almost £300 to get it fixed, but life can be like that sometimes.

srhutch - Thank you very much, but I'd still need to get it repainted, mine is Ruby Black.

That's a bugger! Perhaps a dashcam with parking mode should be a consideration for the future as it would not only give you the registartion but also evidence of what happened?

Gutted for you OP! :(

What is it with some people - it's not like you do that sort of damage and not be aware of it?

Hope you get their details so their insurer pays to fix it. The only less bad thing is it sounds like you have found somewhere that can fix it properly at a pretty good price if not.

Good luck - I would have been furious!
