Screw in my tyre :(

Firstly many thanks to Grahame for inviting me over to use his torque wrench to do my brace

Unfortunately my eve was ruined when I arrived home and heated a hissing, realised its my rear tyre has a screw right in the middle if it :x

Now I know it's not ideal to plug a tyre especially on these cars, but the tyre is fairly new and this month I could do without buying a new tyre, I wanted to put PSS all round after summer

So does anyone have any experience of plugging tyres? Gonna nip to ats tomorrow...

I have had a tyre plugged before & it was never any trouble but as Stuart has said they will advise on what's best.

Sweet cheers guys

I know it's not ideal but I don't plan on tracking or hooning on these tyres so it'll do for now, any idea how much it costs if it can be repaired?

First screw I've had this week

They should fix it no problem for around £10 - they only fix them if its in the centre 75% of the tread and the tyre hasn't been damaged by being driven on flat

Used to work in an office on an industrial estate - must have got a screw / nail in my tyres every other week. Plugging is fine and relatively cheap, just so long as it's a certain distance from the sidewall (as others have said).

If it's in the middle, you're fine. I also have never understood the bad vibes around tyre plugging. When you have it done (should cost about £15 tops) you'll see how they do it. You'll soon see there's no chance of it coming out/losing air.

I've always had punctures repaired rather than replaced where possible and never had an issue.

Never had a problem with a repaired tyre - and had them on tracks/Ring.

However, let's be clear what we're talking about:
  • Cold plugging is not suitable for V-rated and above tyres.
  • Hot galvanised plugging is suitable for all tyres.
  • V-rated and above shouldn't have more than 1 hot plug. Below that no more than 3.

Had a rear tyre of a Harley plugged once by the RAC years ago. They tell you you shouldn't go above say 50mph and do more than so many miles but we're talking about 10 years ago now. I would imagine with the Safety margine put in that you could use the tyre for 'normal'** usage up to 70mph these days.
**i.e.- no donuts, wheelspins etc.

i had a tyre fixed on my westfield. it wasnt a plug tho some sort of patch thing i think. it was right in the middle of the tread. those tryes get way more abuse than the z tyres do and its been abolutly fine.

Well the tyre is in so hopefully they can repair. Seeing the suspension etc with a wheel off makes the car look dirty :x
Makes me want to hose underneath the car and cosy it up in a garage from now on

Oh well

My Mrs.bought a brand new Volvo and int he 1st month it had 3 tyres have a screw through. 1st one was fixed free, others were £20....

New tyres are like screw magnets!
