screeching noise from window

I lowered my passengers windows the other day and it screeches.....

Can anything be done or is it the sign of regulator failure

Mine was doing that occasionally during last summer, just the passenger side. It started after the car was parked for a few weeks at a time. I believe it was just the wiper being dry. When window was wet or temps were low it did not do it.

Any chance you wax/claybar or polish your card recently? All you need is a bit of wax in the window rubber seals for it to start screeching all day.

I have waxed it, but this is a noise that would wake the dead !

It was loud enough for my neighbour to come and ask what it was

Anyway booked it into the dealer for a few things next week :o

It's most likely the wax trust me, mine was a super loud pitch one as well from just a little autoglym polish that gone on the windows on the outside. Try washing with water and silicon spray (not the strong ones that tarnish the paintwork) and wind the windows up and down and see if the sound softens. If it does than it's the wax and you can slowly DIY it off over the days.. if it remains as the high pitch scream that you mention than send it to your dealer for a check i guess.

You might drop the window and run the corner of a damp towel between the rubber guides. If it's grimey/gritty, you may have found the culprit which would be dust/dirt after sitting for a bit. Neglected, this could also cause some scratching of the window. That would be the case If the sound is more scratchy -vs- screechy which might be resolved by Sandman's suggestion. Sort of depends if the contact noise seems to be from contact from parts or all of the glass i.e sand paper -vs- squeegie. However, 'waking the dead' would lend me to think it's a treatment on the entire window. ...dean

Have done all the above, but as it's rained I can't tell.

I've booked it in to the dealers for a few bits so will ask them to take a look at the same time.

Cheers Folks

Dealers had the car today, one of the seals in the window is worn so causes the noise.. .£22 for the part £1.2 million to fit

They've lowered their prices then!

I had the same problem on my 320 Coupe a few years ago.

Clean the rubbers. Apply small amount of washing up liquid and it worked wonders.

Replacing the rubbers will fix it too.
