Scratchy type sound after engine fires

Alright everyone?

I've noticed lately that when i turn the key, the engine fires absolutely fine first time. But i am sure i can here something which i can only describe as scratchy as if something is running down, lasts a second or so.

Could this be the starter motor on the way out?

Under all other operating conditions i have no other weird engine noises, temp and performance are absolutely fine and no strange noises under load....
 
It appears i have completely imagined this as damned if i can hear anything anymore, seems to fire up fine without the noise...
 
A sound you describe is usually the starter not disengaging quickly enough. Tired or dirty spring. Might come back, not the end of the world unless it doesn't stop! Repairable but quicker to swap over and do on an exchange basis for about £100.
