scratches

I have saphire black Zed with a few very small scratches, unavoidable really. I have had Megs scratch X recommended. Anybody used this??

Its a good product to remove/reduce the appearance of scratches by hand.

As a rule of thumb if you run your nail over the scratch and it catches your nail you can usually improve the appearance of it, if it doesn't catch your nail then you have a good chance of removing it completly

marypoppins, have a read through THIS before buying anything... I use Auto Glym by hand, amongst other products, and since using the approach in the link, it's done wonders for my paint.

I use AG Super Resin, Auto Glym Ultra Deep Shine, Poorboys Black Hole, Natty's Wax.

By layering up, I've managed to mask a whole load of swirls by hand. Of course the deepest ones remain :(

You're a fellow sapphire owner, it's a part time job isn't it lol.

I've recently done a detail on mine with excellent results, the paintwork left a lot to be desired before.
I managed to remove some scratches I'd previously resigned myself to thinking they were permanent!

If you've got some stubborn scratches etc try some grade 2000 wet and dry paper well lubricated (scary, at first yes, but no different to a rotary!) polish with some menz 3.02 compound polish (I used a machine polisher but it's perfectly possible by hand) and then finished with some menz 106 to refine.
After that by all means try and mask the defects with SRP or another filler like black hole, but don't be too afraid to face the task head on!

Worst defect before...

Done! I just need to touch in the chip, sand it down to the same level, one final pass and it's complete.

Minimal lacquer removal, no fillers or wax in the photos, unedited pics straight off the cam!

Chris_p That's really impressive work, I've attacked my old runabouts with super-fine wet and dry and polishing when Mrs Ewazix has her regular scrapes (she's frightened of the Zed so that's safe), but never had the bottle to do a decent car, and certainly not in black, amazing results

Great results chris_p - also got a sapphire, so nice to see an example of what works. That menz polish/compound you mention - is it short for something? Googling only brings up car forum threads!

Cheers guys.

There you go! As said, it's perfectly achievable by hand, it's just better with a da/rotary.

When wet and drying be very careful not to go over the top, take off as little as possible and don't go harsher than grade 2000. There's a dude on YouTube somwhere which helps, I'll try and dig it out.

Edit: this guy http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PWd5PktjI7Y
He's got lots of vids which may help :)

I thought you was mad till i saw the results. How long did that take??

Not long, probably around half an hours work, probably added a couple of hundred quid to the resale of the car in doing so!

cheers chris_p..... after viewing what you have achieved i may have a go at a scrape on my bumper, the worst that could happen is i need it respraying..... and that was the route i though i need to go.
