scratched windows....

Does anyone have any idea as to how to remove light scratches on the side windows? Have been lazy and now paying the price - the dirt and grit trapped between glass and rubber have left scratches from where the windows been opened and closed. Is there a compound I can buy to buff the scratches out that works?

you can polish glass with various products out there... I use a rotary machine and Cerium Oxide powder.

Although, I have been known to also use the "hammer method" if it's a shockingly bad windscreen...

He's talking about the side windows though... Mine had scratches too, and it was really frustrating! It's because of the angle of the windows.

The cerium oxide approach should still work, and I'd suggest either a very good clean of the rubbers/seal or replacement if they're bad to prevent it happening again.

Yes, so was I. :tumbleweed: :tumbleweed: :tumbleweed:

It's just sometimes easier and faster to use a hammer if possible for the front one......

I have seen a machine polisher being used on glass but cant comment on what technique/product used. YouTube may hold some answers :)

I have a scratch from the wipers on my windscreen - two actually, really close together. When I asked on here people recommended cerium oxide, but pointed out that it can actually introduce a very slight dip in the glass that then distorts the view through the polished part. Might not matter on the side window, but thought I would mention it. I guess using a machine polisher and doing the whole bit of glass would avoid this.

Yep, you don't want to remove glass surface in one spot, you need to do the whole screen ideally. It won't remove large scratches anyhow unless you concentrate on one spot and that will likely cause visual issues. For deep damage, get a new screen. For minor scratches, just do the whole screen with the cerium oxide or at least a large area around the scratches. TBH you'd want to do the whole screen otherwise you'll get a bit that while scratch free also looks very shiny compared to the rest, so doing the whole screen will leave the glass looking very nice all over.

Unfortunately that amount of effort hits my CBA limiter, so I will wait till I can get a new screen out if the insurance company :D
