Scraping noise when turning left

Noticed last night that when i turn the steering wheel to the left there is a sort of scraping metallic noise.

It doesn't happen when the car is stationary, and it seemed to be ok this morning, but came back again at lunch time!

Any ideas?

Could be anything from a worn out disc pad to a stone in between disc and dust shield.

Really need to jack the offending corner up turn to full lock (left) rotate the wheel and start looking/listening. Then wheel off and investigate some more

Made a big noise as i pulled out of the car park

then 25 miles home, not a sound.

weird. Fairly sure it's not serious if it comes and goes like that?

I had a metallic scraping noise on mine when I first got it - came and went over a week or so until I took it to the dealer. Turned out to be a stone jammed in next to the disk - not done it since.

Maybe, just maybe, it could just be as insignificant as the wheel arch liner. The same happened to my Dads car, luckily only on the drive. The plastic cover plate used to cover the back of the light cluster in the wheel arch had come loose and was rubbing against the tyre while it was on lock and wasn't sure what it was at first but then found the plastic cover on the garage floor.

Just a thought, hope you find the culprit soon :)

Yep - That's why I suggested it

Tends to happen on lock too as it just tightens components up that fraction more.

Have to agree this is a likely culprit

And it sounds really bad when it happens too!

Any ideas on where the most likely place for a wedged stone might be? Will it be between the disk and the shield behind it?

buggered if i can see anything.

Agree with what others said. If no stone then maybe check both springs.
My car was diagnosed with a noisy diff and dealer recommended a special additive be used, commonly occurs apparently but is not a defect as such. I never allow them to use that and guess what? It no longer does it anyway, drove many miles since and no idea how long ago the noise stopped. Also have replaced both rear springs now (some miles apart), no idea if related.

As with all such things it can be anywhere. Shield to disk. Pad to disc.
Put it in reverse and dab on and off the brakes sharply a few times with the car in various turn angles. Usually dislodges the offending item if that's what it is.

Big empty car park is best

Have you also checked your pads are not worn out and that the sensor is connected?

I had this and it was just worn out brake pads (not on metal but just low), for some reason they made a scraping noise when turning left only, I would check your pads, the reason the noise may have gone is because you've worn the pad completely away and are now eating into disc, it's not difficult to check.
