Scottish Z4-forum Meet - Sun 18th April 2010

Ah, I recognise that username from PH - Dundee-based, right? I've added you to the list.

Billy - if we can I'd like to keep this as Z4-only, being the first meet I've tried to organise I'd rather keep it small. Of course, if we're low on numbers then by all means yes, but it'd be nice to keep it small and more controlled in terms of group dynamics.

(I've updated the list in the first post in this thread)

Come on you guys, can't have these southerners beating us on Numbers. http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=16407 . A11y has got a great route planned here, will be a great days driving. :poke:

Thats the first time I've been called a southener! You'll have us boys in the North East drinking shandy and driving white escort cabrio's next!

Can I say possibly to this? Im supposed to be going to my mate's restaurant opening night on the 17th but there's a high chance it'll be delayed so I'll be in edinburgh with nothing to do!

My wife got her new (to her) car. 1.6 renault megane cabriolet and asked me if i thought she would be allowed to come along in her car because it's a cabriolet. After i had stopped laughing and had recieved a one month bedroom favours ban I explained that whilst she no doubt thinks her car is wonderful i listed several points as to why this would not be acceptable.

Point 1. it's not a Z4

point 2 It's french.

Point 3. it's not a Z4

Point 4. i would recieve a lifetime ban from the forum.

Point 5. it's not a Z4.

And point 6. we don't want inferior cars messing up our day.

And then the fight started

If this was a few weeks later I'd be sooo tempted to have a run up to Scotland as I'd love to have done a tour with some "locals".

Well, hopefully if this one's a success then I think a future run heading south from the central belt - Borders/Moffat/Dumfries area - should be on the cards. Only problem I don't know many roads in that area. It'd allow a link up with some northerners (I've learnt not to call anyone north of the Tyne "English" - hope I got that right!).

Pencil me in the list for the Borders run please!
There ye go - signed up for a run thats not even planned.

I talked to two fellas from Glasgow on a ferry from Holland last year and the usual England / Scotland banter thing came up - They both told me that "Geordies dinna count" in that equation.

A great road down to come out near Gretna Has to be the A7. Pick it up from the dalkeith R/about.

Only a suggestion:-
(For the Borders runout)

From GRETNA head towards LONGTOWN (thats in England !) Then head NORTH back up the A7 and turn right onto the B6357 towards CANNONBIE and onto NEWCASTLETON - I would suggest a stop here as DOUGLAS SQUARE has loads of space. The Square has been used for the RAC rally service halt and other big events. Its also got two pubs, The Grapes and the Liddesdale. There is also a small Bakers / Cafe 100 yards back down the road and another 100 yards up. I know the grub in the Grapes is good and I'll bet Trevor would do a lunch if you asked him!

From NEWCASTLETON carry on up the B6357 to a Tee junction and turn left onto the B6399 towards HAWICK -

or:- From NEWCASTLETON go over the tops to LANGHOLM (not sure of the number) its a small road and has a few sump crackers on it - so watch out! Langholm also has loads of parking an a smashing ice cream shop polosis. Langholm is on the A7 so the choice is yours from there.

Needless to say, but if you come down the A7 into Hawick and do the twisty bit of the route into Newcastleton and Cannonbie in the reverse order.

The route has plenty of ups and downs and left an rights and is quite well surfaced.

I hope you find this of some help and hope its not a case of Teaching yer Granny to suck eggs!

Ronk ......"Organize it and they shall come"

Sounds like you know the area pretty well. Should organize a meet up at langholm we come down the A7 and meet up there.

Thats the only bit I know quite well but thats against a background of driving it in my Disco3 and sometimes with a tintent on the back! As you can imagine - not at Zed type speeds and, given the fact I've got official codger status, I might not be the best to lead! I'll keep up with the pack tho.

Please don't think I'm dodging the column, just let me know where your comming from and direction you want to be on the return and I'll be delighted to give you a hand with more details or organising a bait stop in Newcastleton

That part of the route ie. Longtown : Hawick is about 20 miles - gooduns tho!

B6399 is a wee cracker , BMWCC Scottish region did a run down to Kielder and I tried it on the way home.. a laugh :D

There' s many specialist car clubs use it - They all tend to stop at Newcastleton! Hassle free parking and facilities.
