Scotlands speed limits

I was north of the border last week and there seemed to be a lot of small towns and villages that had a 20mph speed limit applied

Selkirk, there was a very long section of 20mph and I thought it wasn't really necessary. 30mph would have been plenty slow!

Is this a country wide thing?

Scottish Borders has implemented a local authority wide 20 mph limit to all built up areas (built up is more than 20 dwellings) with some higher limits on the outer edges to some towns such as Hawick.

Several authorities have implemented 20 mph on a town by town / village by village basis.

FWIW I’ve personally not seen much specific 20 mph speed enforcement measures but still quite a bit on open roads.

Yes,was through there on a Run recently,and it's so annoying.
That's what happens when the Government in Power,in Scotland,are in bed with the Greens!!
The party who hate Combustion engine vehicles,and who want to treat Nuclear power as a big no no,when we should be building New Nuclear power stations,to replace the ones that are/will be closing

Personally,I think the 20 limits a nonsense,as it just means peoples cars actually Polute more and use more fuel at such a low speed!!
From what I have seen in car fuel stats at different speeds.

A lot of 50 mph speed limit signs have gone up in mid Wales recently on the main arterial A roads. Why? I do not know. Nothing in the press.

In some parts of Edinburgh, 15mph would be to fast for some of the pot holes that I have to navigate. Edinburgh is really bad compared to other Scottish cities, but there again it is an SNP controlled council. There are even pot holes outside the Scottish Parliament, unfortunately, they are not large enough to swallow Nicola and make her disappear :lol:

FIRSTLY, I was meaning Scotland as a whole,as I said,its happening throughout the different areas of Scotland, not just the Borders.

SECONDLY,
What,am I being Prejudice agaibst,Peter....against an SNP who have had Control from Holyrood for around 15 years,give or take,Of Roads,Health,Education and many other matters...and in Health,Education and Roads that have all got Considerably worse under their control.

Thats my opinion, and backed up by facts that the SNP don't try too hard to hide,or by Independent School /Education organisations, and local Health authority figures themselves.
SO WHY SAY I'M BIASED....Its my opinion.........Based on being born and bred ,and having lived in Scotland my entire life
and not only having moved here,circa 2016.

My statement is factual,the SNP have knocked back many things that I, and many others,think are worthwhile,Re Roads,Power Stations,etc, due to being in bed with the Greens(so they can get a majority in Holyrood)

So why have a dig at me Peter,because I dont think the SNP are doing a very good job of running the country I was born in?

I won’t be making a return to Scotland any time soon. Used to attend the annual Scottish Highlander tours but the roads are so bad now that the car needed a respray after the last trip.

Yeah,sounds like it's a UK wide thing... reducing the Speed limits by stealth.
Arguments for and against both,bit cars nowadays have been better braking etc etc than ever,when Speed limits were set long time ago

Not been remotely aggressive, you on the other hand have been very gung ho with the insults and name calling, as usual.

Being a man with principles it doesn't matter to me if I disagree with someone about one issue, where there is agreement elsewhere I don't have any issue supporting that person. In this case it I think you would need to be quite fragile to consider what Peter said to be "having a pop" he simply pointed out the makeup of the council area as a matter of fact.
