Scotland, the UK, Independence and Brexit

So I am intrigued to hear from the non Scottish members about their perceptions of Scotland as regards to Brexit and the apparently ever looming independence debate and how Scottish MPs/Government is seen south of the border.

I really dont want to start any kind of debate or argument about the pros/cons of brexit or indy etc. So please try to avoid letting this just become a big rammy argument :P 8)

I just want to gain an understanding of how the current situation is being perceived by real folk in the rest of the UK, if you're not keen on posting publicly feel free to fire me a wee PM

Having travelled south for a sales meeting last week my English colleagues seem happy to let us go but it might just be me they want rid of!

Maybe! :P
I'm very aware that because we have different papers etc we all tend to be in somewhat self contained bubbles where we dont really get to hear what real people in the rest of the UK think even if its not easy to hear!

It's an interesting one.. When the independence referendum was playing out, I thought it would be absolute madness to want to be independent from the United Kingdom. My own view regarding Brexit was similar, that it was better to be part of the club than not.

However, now we've got Brexit in full effect, and seemingly a complete shambles, I'd thoroughly support an independent Scotland.

Go! Save yourselves!

What I found during the independence referendum was that it was important to read/see what wasn't being reported. Now I regularly watch the parliament channel live so I see the full debate and not just the edited version, theres certainly been a bit of editing this last few days!

It seems to me that there has been a fair bit of prevarication by Scottish politicians on the Independence issue for some time before the Brexit referendum....it could be said that now there is increased prevarication as they have been put on the spot. There has probably never been a better chance for an Independent Scotland as now....currently though most folk don't seem to want it despite all the historical turmoil and suffering to produce such a result in the past. Personally, I love Scotland having worked all over the country, living there briefly and would like to see less Anglicisation of the country but its probably unstoppable now even if Brexit-related Independence is achieved.....

Scotland, as I recall from several amazing road trips. Is the best place in the United Kingdom, to go for a drive or a nice long walk. Long may it remain so.

Love Scotland visit every year to be honest even if a split occurs it really wouldn’t effect me really just may have to show my passport on the way up  may be the best way for Scotland to go anyway at least you wouldn’t have our idiotic politics ruling over you !! Just your own IE miss cranky mp  my say is good luck to you if that’s the way you go may even emigrate :D

I'm not sure why everyone who's SNP believes the shite they come up with. I was genuinely expecting Sturgeon to blame the English for that arts fire on the weekend. Fact is. It won't work, no use of the £. Will have to adopt the FULL EU membership process and take the € which is a requirement now... And do they honestly think the sparse oil fields will be split right through the boarder line 90c east??? Lunacy.

Anyway fellow Scots.. we all love you, none of us actually want this to happen or go down this route again.. But seriously ditch this SNP malark. You'll be skint in a year and just like it was a few hundred years ago be begging to come back. These idealists only have one agenda and that's getting their names in the history book. And believe me when I say this. There is no OIL to sustain you. Shell for instance plan to go gas extraction only in the next decade. Oil is dead.

So there we have it, we're too wee, too poor, too stupid to look after ourselves!

Here the argument starts... how many fanatical regimes have actually succeeded? This is what the SNP is.. fanatics.
The people aren't the issue it's the people in charge. Try and separate the two.

Also you see how it's working out leaving the EU? The whole have your cake and eat it... why this is presumed to be any different I have no idea.
Plus Spain have already said they will block Scotland from joining the EU. Kind of said it sets an ugly precedent for them.

Love my the country and proud of what we do (with the odd exception but we mean well) hate the divisive nature of the "fanatical" regimes and all this PC correctness. Modern society is all about self self and oh... self but on the other hand too many people want spoon feeding for free.

I agree with devolution of powers to a certain extent but in the long term if it continues on the path were on its going too far in relation to overall governing of the country and it will be (Is) less efficient and less beneficial overall for the whole country.

Bit like the old saying:

Divide and conquer or unite and fight. We are dividing ourselves when we should unite and fight as a stronger unit. Worked well in the past... :headbang:

It's always interesting to read how things are perceived in other parts of the UK.
Thanks for the feedback!
Just out of interest is it the Mail or Express you read?

Thanks to everyone for their contribution so far, I have always believed getting other peoples points of view is the only way to fully understand your own 8) :D
