What exactly is the benefit of them leaving? Would there economy be strong enough to support itself!?

Alex Salmond wants the 16 & 17 year olds to vote because he knows full well that the ignorant outnumber the intelligent.
Alex Salmond in my opinion will take this country to the dogs and will do it in a short amount of time, The referendum is indeed for independance from the UK and in my opinion will be the greatest error Scotland could make.
People will tell you of all the great explorers, inventors and every other great thing Scotland has done for the world, all these things whilst Scotland was / is a member of the UK. and without the rest of the UK we are quite simply f*cked.

Everything Nosa says it spot on. Dressing up the 16 & 17 y.o. votes as it's their future country etc is bollocks - its that Salmond knows fine well he can brainwash them much easier.

The SNP seem to be living in this dream world that North Sea oil and renewable energies will somehow guarantee future income, which is of course also bollocks on both counts. And as said, as an independent country anyone working at Faslane, Rosyth, Leuchars etc can forget it in terms of future job security :- although that's another unanswered question about whether we'd somehow split the armed forces or not really be independent by still being in the Army, RN, RAF etc.

I can't remember the figure so I'll make one up, but I seem to recall that Scottish employment is something like 75% public sector too. I really can't believe the other 25% pay enough tax from private sector income to cover that public services bill.

Pay attention ....... :D :D :D
With an independant Scotland, there would be no westminister politics, ie no labour or conservative parties ..... all you would have is herr oberfuhrer, supreme leader, admiral general, his Salmondness.

Minor details like economics, lawlessness, healthcare etc wont matter because once its done, its done ...... and cant be reversed. Then all the bleating will start about how we cant afford this and cant afford that and its not my fault because I was only doing what you told me to etc etc. ie full politician bullshit mode.

Scotland has a negative balance book (oil revenues + taxes re benefits etc) and will therefore have to go crying to germany for bail outs ......
and like greece and the others will end up being ruled from Brussels ...

Its a colorful picture I paint :D but inevitable.

Im expecting house prices just over the border in England to start rising :D

Also interesting that the commonwealth games are in Glasgow in the same year as the referendum which is a clever move by the SNP. As we compete as separate nations there is likely to be a greater sense of national identity and pride and may persuade undecided voters to vote yes...

The SNP have already said that Trident will go, For me that is the ONLY benefit, I don't think we should have Nukes, and not just in Scotland.

They have already tripped themselves up a couple of times, as Adamski said, no legal advice on the referendum, and they are telling us that we will be entering the European union, even though they have not made any in road enquiries that way.
We can only hope that they continue with their easily proven lies and deciept.
Good news is that so far the Scottish news channels are remaining neutral and giving both sides the same amount of air time, and overall the views being expressed by the majority of those interviewed on the streets is to remain part of the union.
A big concern is that no matter if it is a yes or a no I think this will cause a massive rift for Scotland from the rest of the uk and one that will not be forgotten or forgiven for a long time.
Alot of the street interviews I have seen from South of the border seems to be an overall "feck em" let them go if they want to, and I have to say I don't blame them.

If we gain independence then I will be looking for one of those expensive houses just south of the border. (if they let me in) :?

If you believed that Mel Gibson film (the one before he went crazy, mad)... We should have carried on with ius primae noctis

Well with the (very) small percentage of attractive Scottish women :fuelfire:

Perhaps the view is that all bankrupt countries are exotic and nice and warm, like Greece, Spain and Portugal.

Perhaps the convincing argument will be that if they go alone, they end up like those countries - and everyone will vote for it as they will think it will be nice and warm then

The percentage of attractive English women is the same, you just have more 'women'. Which leads to a greater Density Of Ugly :fuelfire:

The really unfair part to the hopeful and likely no vote is that Scottish MPs will continue to have a say in English matters.

Thanks to everyone for helping me understand this properly. It just seems totally mental to me;having been born at the (very) end of the 50's, i have never been nationalistic, monarchistic or sadomasochistic and saw Britain as one country with regional variations. It seems very strange to think that the youth of Scotland are being taught that the English are their enemy rather than their countrymen.

Freeeeeedooooommmm :headbang:
Worse thing that ever happened to Scotland was that movie and that fat slug/Jabba the Hutt Salmond jumping on the bandwagon.
He gets fatter every time I see him. Must be the free lunches and the smozzing he's doing :poke:

I could rant all day about Salmond

Wish we can just the referendum done and send him packing. If he loses, that gives the UK government an "overwhelming mandate" to wind down his party and give us some stability

hahahahaha, thats fighting talk!!!!

If they want to go it alone, then that means....go it alone! Wales will follow, and we'll give NI back to the Irish...then my english tax's won't go into subsidising these countries :poke:
